00:00Good morning! We're excited to see you, that's for sure.
00:05Same here, I do say.
00:07You ready to roll? Where are you?
00:09I'm in my basement.
00:11Yeah, it's the only place you won't hear the kids screaming in a few minutes when they wake up for school.
00:16So do you have another one on the way, or what's going on?
00:20Yeah, my wife does. My wife is waiting.
00:24Yeah, we're expecting the fourth.
00:27Wow, that's a lot.
00:29How many do you plan on having?
00:31What?
00:32How many do you plan on?
00:34Well, you know, I love that you respect me enough to think I have a choice in the matter.
00:41I love that.
00:43How many are being planned for you?
00:45Hey, you know what? I'm so happy. Honestly, man, it goes so fast.
00:49It really does. It goes so fast.
00:52I love that I'm blessed with having these beautiful kids.
00:56They keep me young.
00:57How has it changed you? How has it changed you professionally?
01:00Because you had a way of doing your job before the kids and then afterwards.
01:04Has it changed you in a big way?
01:06You know, I don't know that it changed me. I think it made it sweeter for sure.
01:09You know, one of my favorite things about traveling, honestly, is that you find out how beautiful people are all over the world.
01:20And I mean, I mean, you go and I mean, I go to 50 countries a year and I'm always so moved by how empathetic and wonderful and kind and funny and sweet that different people are in whatever culture they're in, whatever book they're reading, whatever God they believe in.
01:39And and I just think it's the coolest thing in the world that I get to go.
01:43And, you know, and by the way, and that my children get to see that because I think it enriches their life that they get to see that it's a beautiful world over there.
01:51Marianne, I told you he was a nice guy.
01:53I told you he was a nice guy and I said he's cute, too. And I was right. Right.
01:58By the way, she got a new sweater for this interview. She got a brand new sweater.
02:03Oh, yes. Can you see my sweater? Yes. All for you.
02:06I need new clothes for Michael Buble.
02:09You guys, I'm going to tell you, I for you, I even wore pets this morning.
02:14And in these Zoom calls, I usually just refuse. But no.
02:19So, Michael, if you had to pick someone who music you like, not only their music, but their personality who influenced you, who would you say that was?
02:28Well, I mean, it's old, but Dean Martin, for sure, was a big influence for me.
02:33I was, you know, was always a fan of Frank, obviously, but not as much as I like Elvis and not as much as I like Dean.
02:40And it was because of their personalities. It was because of getting to know people that knew them.
02:45And and the stories I would hear were always of kindness and being very empathetic cats who were good to the people around them.
02:55And I always thought that was very cool and very classy.
02:58Now, you've done a lot of duets throughout your career.
03:00Matter of fact, Willie Nelson, you have a duet on this album, but also Paul McCartney.
03:04Tell us the story. It's not a duet with Paul, but he produced My Valentine.
03:10Yeah. And how did that come about? Did you send him sort of some sort of demo or something? Is that what happened?
03:15No, Paul, they wrote they Paul wrote me before I even started the record and said, you know, I hear you're making the record.
03:21And I think you could do a great job on this song. And we've we've met before and hung a little before.
03:27And I thought it was amazing. I mean, you guys can imagine how cool for me that someone I respect that much trusted trusted me with their art and their legacy.
03:39And I was very it was just way too much fun. Keep in touch. And I'm a big fan.
03:45And I heard his shows, by the way, are doing great. And he knows I'm going. It's funny, you know, it's it's it's been a weird couple of years for all of us.
03:53And and I think all of us, I know Paul and I spoke about it. We really missed we missed being out there.
04:00We missed missed our people. That's a big part of our lives. You know, it's we're and we're blessed that it's a big part of our lives.
04:07It's, you know, talk about, you know, I'm showing up at Madison Square Garden, you know, for other people, they hear Madison, Madison Square Garden and they, you know, it's a big building in this iconic place.
04:17But for me, it's home. For me, it's a place that the last 20 years, I've been lucky enough to show up three or four times every year.
04:25And, you know, it's I know it sounds crazy. It's not Billy Joel, but it's like kind of a residency where you show up and you play and you get to know the people.
04:33And I know the staff, I know the people in catering and the security and and there's nothing like going there and showing up and feeling like it's not this over, you know, this scary, overbearing sort of situates.
04:48It's your people. It's your August August 18th.
04:52You'll be in Madison Square Garden. You'll be in Philly on August 30th.
04:55I think it's on sale now. What keeps you humble?
04:58Because you're doing these big arenas, you're performing with all these superstars and you are a superstar.
05:05But there had to be a point in your career was like, I can't believe that just happened to me.
05:09It's always I'm never one. It's never going to change for me.
05:11And it's never, by the way, and I feel that I don't want to speak for you, but I can imagine it's the same for you.
05:17We never we're never set in this business, guys, and you know it and people can look at you and, you know, you've made it to the pinnacle of, you know, of your profession.
05:28And you're in a position a million people would love to be in.
05:31And that's why you got to work harder than other people because they'll take your job and, you know, people will move on.
05:37And I think while it's important to be grateful, you never stop working your butt off because and you and you don't lose that sense of humility because, you know, if you're smart, you know, this doesn't just stay.
05:50You didn't just it's not a crown that you earned and you just keep, you know, famous fleeting but obscurity is forever.
06:00And I think you guys know that there's a million people waiting in the wings to do exactly what you're doing and they might even do it better.
06:08And so you never lose the humility, especially if it took you a long time to get there.
06:13I think you realize, you know, I, I, I'm only as good as the last word that came out of my mouth.
06:20And I never, I never stopped working.
06:22Speaking about words coming out of your mouth, when I saw that video higher, I saw you dancing and you look like this fancy dancer.
06:29And then you're doing all these moves and then you're still singing flawlessly as if you weren't even moving.
06:35And I'm like, how does this guy control his breath and control the notes?
06:39Like if I'm doing an exercise class or any type of exercise and I'm talking, I'm like, like, it sounds like I'm panting.
06:47Is there an, how do you control your breath?
06:49By the way, she was panting like that when she was watching your video.
06:52I think, I think for that, for that video, it was, I think it was a lot of just me lip syncing to be honest with you.
07:01I died during that video. I just talked to Derek Cuff yesterday and he's, he's such a sweetie by him and his, him and his girlfriend.
07:10And I had so much fun doing that video. It was really, it was taxing though.
07:14It's tough to move like that for all those folks.
07:16And I understand why they, you know, of course on stage I do, I just pant.
07:20I just was, you know, I just played my first shows and sang that song.
07:23Uh, I think I was panting more when I was doing the music video for, uh, I'll never not love you for the recent single.
07:31Um, because I, I, my wife was in it and, and she looked pretty hot in a lot of the things.
07:37So, uh,
07:40you definitely have a pretty wife. Thank God she was already pregnant.
07:45Listen, you gotta, you gotta run. You gotta run.
07:47But I do, since you brought up your wife, did she speak English when you guys met?
07:50Or were you, did you have a, no, no, no.
07:54And I did not speak one. I did not speak one. No.
07:59So, so her sister used to come on many of our dates.
08:03Oh, I had a friend who was my security guy who was from Venezuela.
08:06So he would, but mostly we would be alone and we would have the computer and you'd press F1.
08:13And it would translate what we'd say back and forth.
08:16Wow.
08:17Wow.
08:18And now my wife is speaks perfect English and I still speak like a Spanish caveman.
08:23All right.
08:24We're going to let you run by August 18th, Madison square garden and in Philly Wells Fargo center on August 30th.
08:29Michael, thank you so much for speaking.
08:31Thank you for wearing the black shirt and thank you for wearing your beautiful white sweater.
08:34Good sweater.
08:40You look gorgeous.
