Tyler Forness discusses why the Minnesota Vikings should make a play for Seattle Seahawks backup QB Sam Howell!

00:00One week after we predicted who might be the next Vikings backup quarterback,

00:04he is officially available.

00:06How and who?

00:08Let's talk about it.

00:11The Minnesota Vikings have a needed backup quarterback,

00:14and it's been evident for a while.

00:16They could have gone the Aaron Rodgers route, and they chose not to.

00:19They could have kept either Sam Darnold or Daniel Jones.

00:21They failed to do both.

00:23And because they were unable to keep those guys,

00:25they have an obligation to get a better veteran to pair with J.J. McCarthy.

00:31Now, they could have kept Nick Mullins,

00:32but he chose to follow Grant Udinski over to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

00:37And because he chose to follow Udinski, well, now we're in a good spot.

00:42Good is relative here, but they have to find something.

00:45It was initially thought compensatory picks might have been a huge factor here,

00:48but it just wasn't.

00:51Let's talk about what is.

00:53They haven't found the right guy yet.

00:54I think the right guy is Sam Howell from the Seattle Seahawks.

00:59One of the reasons why it's Sam Howell?

01:01Well, let's think about it.

01:02He's gritty.

01:03He's tough.

01:04He's willing to stand in there and make the tough throws.

01:07And that is something that you can work with as a backup quarterback.

01:10Plus, he's got legs.

01:12Now, there are things that are going to be detrimental to Sam Howell.

01:16Let's just be real here.

01:19You took 65 sacks in his one starting season with the Washington Commanders.

01:24That's not going to fly.

01:26You can't do that.

01:28You can't do that.

01:31You have to be able to get the ball out quicker.

01:33And the Minnesota Vikings are going to demand that.

01:37But he's the backup.

01:37You don't have to worry about him.

01:39He's the guy that comes in and helps you if you need it.

01:43And you know what?

01:45The cost of that could be super cheap.

01:50What could it be?
