00:59We did because we were like, what the hell is it?

01:02It's like a combination of ping pong and tennis.

01:05It's like tennis, but with bigger rackets.

01:07You know, and a different ball.

01:09Yeah, it's slower.

01:10It's slower, sure.

01:11It's easier.

01:11But it's taken off so much so that the folks in one neighborhood in New Jersey are pissed.

01:18They can't catch a break from these noisy pickleball courts.

01:37Members of Ridgewood's pickleball league practiced in a parking lot.

01:40The popular courts were locked on December 31st as the village comes up with a plan to mitigate the sound of the bouncing balls.

01:48Joanne Archer says they normally would be packed with seniors.

01:51It's important during this pandemic to have people be out of their homes and be able to exercise.

02:0380-year-old Lillian Blood took lessons through the village and enjoys the safe socialization.

02:09Friends are harder to make at our age.

02:12Adjacent neighbors who would not go on camera have complained about the noise.

02:15Sound barriers were installed last year, and now players are also required to use muted pickleballs.

02:22We play with quiet paddles.

02:24They're known as green paddles.

02:26Mayor Susan Knudsen says the village is trying to find a little bit.

02:29You can barely hear anyway.

02:30Unfortunately for the residents that are living right next to it, it's not necessarily the level of the noise,

02:38but it's the constant all day long just hearing the pop, pop, pop of poor balls all day.

02:46The village is considering only allowing the sale of pickleball badges to Ridgewood residents

02:50to limit the number of playing and modifying court hours.

03:51My 76-year-old neighbor qualified for the national championship in her age group but couldn't go because she had to have back surgery.

04:19Although this guy said, don't kid yourself, I was a varsity athlete in high school, fairly active.

04:23I was asked to join a pickleball game a couple years ago at the rec center with 70-plus men and women.

04:29They absolutely whipped my ass, had me running like Forrest Gump chasing that damn ball.

04:34Yeah, it's probably a lot harder than we think.

04:38We hustled you.

04:41Yeah, like, oh, we're old.

04:43Yeah, there's no way we'll be able to beat you.

04:44It's like, oh, here's my, here's my, here's my, I have to take the oxygen mask off before I play.

04:53And then they, like, pull their pants and, like, it comes up all apart and they've got a sweet uniform on.
