00:00It's the all-new 105.1 The Bounce. Detroit throwback hip-hop and R&B. Detroit, I am excited. I am super excited to make this big announcement about something special that we are going to bring to you in the mornings that I know you are going to be so excited.
00:30I am excited to hear. This person blew it up when they were here before. It's been about eight years. Let's see. It was 2009. It was March 2009 was my last show in Detroit. Eight years ago. Eight years ago? He left. Can you do the math? You can't do the math. Don't worry about doing the math. Let me do the math. It's 2017. It's March 2017.
01:0010, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17. It's eight years ago. That's what I said. Oh, my bad. He had to count on his fingers. He left Detroit eight years ago the same month. He is now back. He goes by the name of Big Boy. Welcome back to the TV, baby. Welcome back, Big Boy, in the morning.
01:22Wow. This is so awesome. Thank you guys so much. Oh, my God. It's so good to be back in Detroit, and I literally love Detroit, and when I left Detroit, I didn't want to leave Detroit, but I had an opportunity to go to New York City, and I was like, ah.
01:42You can't pass up the Big Apple. Right, and I was like extra fat back then. I'll get to that.
01:49Yes. And after New York City, I went to San Diego. In New York City, I met the love of my life. Her name is Kristen, and um.
01:59She's awesome. I love her. You already love her. She cursed you out already. Yes. In a good way.
02:03Anyone that can curse me out on day one, I love. Right, right. Like, automatically. She's got two. I love it.
02:09Right. I love it.
02:10So then we moved to San Diego, and I did the radio thing, and then I moved to Philadelphia and did the radio thing, and then recently I was in Portland, Oregon, doing the radio thing, and I was, uh, in between all that, I lost 250 pounds.
02:29So, so. So you're not big anymore. So I'm still big. I mean, I still got, you know, like chubs.
02:35I mean. You're not big. If, Shay, if I take my. You look great, by the way.
02:39If I take my shirt off, uh, you'll, you'll see what I'm talking about, but thank you.
02:44That's all good. Thank you.
02:45Love handles are sexy, so don't worry about love handles. That's just something we can grip onto.
02:49Did you. You look great.
02:50Not here, the part where I, I met the love of my life already, so you can't touch, you know.
02:54Well, I wasn't saying me, I'm saying women in general. We like something we can grab a hold of.
03:02I got you. I got you.
03:02That's what I'm saying.
03:03Okay, so.
03:03Don't get me cursed out on day two. Jeez.
03:07So, no, so I went and, uh, I did it all naturally. I just stopped eating, like, anything that's good.
03:13You know, I just started eating, like, chicken and stuff like that.
03:16And, uh, so I lost 250 pounds, and then I got a call about, I can't say when, because, uh, I don't know if I'm allowed to, I don't know what, I don't even know who I am anymore.
03:27Yeah.
03:27I got a call from 105.1 The Bounce, and, uh, it was from a guy named Al Payne. You ever heard of him?
03:35I did, because I got that same call.
03:36Okay, he's our boss.
03:37Yes.
03:37Yeah, hello, uh, big boy. I was Al Payne. Uh, listen, uh, I, uh, got a phone call, uh, from somebody that said, uh, you know, we need to bring you back to Detroit.
03:47So, I called him back, and I was like.
03:50You gotta repeat, you gotta repeat the words.
03:52Uh.
03:52You know, come back to Detroit. Come back to Detroit.
03:55Come back to Detroit. No, you're back to Detroit. Come on, I wanna find a bounce, a bounce, a bounce.
03:58And so, I was like, um, I was like, well, I, uh, I, I can't, uh, I have a, a contract at my station, so, I can't.
04:12And, uh, he was like, well, you know, uh, you know, we want you here at Detroit, Detroit, so, uh, let's see, let's see what we can do.
04:20And so, we kept talking and talking, and, um, you know, my wife now, uh, we just got married in October.
04:27Congratulations. Thank you, Shay.
04:29Absolutely. Congratulations.
04:31Um, and, um, she's from the East Coast, as am I.
04:37And, living out in Portland, Oregon, you know, it's far.
04:40It's far.
04:41It's far from family.
04:42It's far, you know, and we want to have kids, you know, because, uh, you know, I never thought, you know, big boy, I never thought I'd be on the air saying I want to have kids.
04:49I know, you're like, kind of grown up a little bit.
04:51I am grown up a little bit.
04:52Come on, now.
04:55Come on, big. Not a whole lot.
04:57I don't know, a little bit, a little bit, a little bit.
04:59Okay.
05:00So, uh, so, yeah, so I got married, and, uh, we wanted to come back here and have kids.
05:04And, honestly, Detroit, um, was the best radio market for me that I've ever worked in.
05:13And I tell people that, and I, uh, unfortunately, I want to tell people in Detroit that I do have, you do have to defend Detroit.
05:21Nothing new to you guys.
05:22We all know, like, when I say Detroit is my favorite city to do radio in, people go, Detroit?
05:28And I'm like, yo, Detroit's poppin'.
05:30Like, y'all don't know.
05:31Like, seriously.
05:33And especially now, it's, like, huge.
05:35And it's nice.
05:36And it's lovely.
05:37And the people are awesome.
05:38And the seasons, don't take them for granted.
05:41Because in Oregon, it rains all the time.
05:43And you can't have good hair days.
05:45No, Detroit is amazing.
05:47Yeah.
05:48Detroit is where I was born.
05:49I will defend Detroit until I die.
05:51Detroit is amazing.
05:53Me too.
05:53It's an amazing city.
05:54Yeah, and now that I'm here, and I'm married, and I'm, like, grown up, kind of.
06:00Oh, man.
06:01Stop.
06:02I, uh, I want to live here forever.
06:04So, like, I don't want to move anymore.
06:06I don't want to play radio and move.
06:08So, now that I'm here, and they're allowing, you know, Big Boy in the Morning to take place,
06:15and they're teaming me up with Shea, you know, Shea Shizzle.
06:19Is that all right?
06:20That's what you called me eight years ago.
06:22Okay.
06:23Shea Shizzle.
06:25Um, I've got to come up with something new.
06:27Yeah, you do.
06:27I think that this is going to be a great thing on 105 On The Bounce.
06:32And I love the music, man.
06:34I was, I've been listening to you ever since all, ever since I got the call from the boss,
06:37and he was like, hey, don't I want you to come to 105 On The Bounce.
06:41I was, like, starting to listen on my app.
06:43Yeah.
06:44And we're on iHeartRadio, by the way, and we have our own app.
06:47And we have our own app.
06:48That you can download.
06:48105 On The Bounce app.
06:49Yes.
06:50And I started listening to you, and I was like, man, that's good.
06:52My dog, Shea.
06:53And I love Shea.
06:54And Shea came up to me yesterday and said, I'm your black wife.
06:59And I was like, I was like, I like that.
07:02I was like, Shea.
07:03Wait, no.
07:03I said at work wife.
07:05My, my, I know you said at work.
07:07I said at, I'm your black at work wife.
07:09My black at work wife.
07:10Yes.
07:10Yeah.
07:11Because, listen, your wife.
07:13Yeah.
07:13I don't want to, I don't want no nothing, no trouble.
07:16She's nice.
07:17No, she's nice.
07:17I know.
07:17She's nice.
07:18I mean, and, and worst case scenario, I mean, I could be your app.
07:21But, you know, I'm just saying, I like her, though.
07:25I like her.
07:25We're lovers.
07:26I like her, though.
07:27But we are.
07:27And I, like, yesterday, you didn't hear it, but, so yesterday, we had, you know, kind
07:33of a luncheon and kind of, you know, introduced everybody to you that was here, that works
07:38here.
07:39Right.
07:39And I said, you know, at Channel, when we worked at this other radio station.
07:45Right.
07:46Yeah, me and Shea both worked at, yep.
07:49We worked at another radio station together, and I said that you were like my little brother
07:53and I was like your big sister, like, when we first met, it was like, we just had this
07:58connection, and we always just had this real cool vibe together.
08:01Yeah, and, like, I would always come up behind Shea and give her a big bear hug, because I
08:05was, like, extra fat before I lost much weight.
08:07And, and I would come up behind her and give her, like, a bear hug, and she thought, like,
08:11she was being a hostess.
08:12You know, she'd be like, why, don't you?
08:13You know, she thought I was like, you know.
08:15I was like, get free.
08:17So, I just want everybody to know that, you know, Shea is going to be here, and she is part
08:23of the show, and I love being back in Detroit, and all I want to do right now is just talk
08:30to people.
08:31Like, anyone that used to listen to, you know, Big Boy on, on channel when I was, when I was
08:37there, you know, and anybody that I partied with, uh, God, the, most of the clubs are
08:43defunct now, bro.
08:44They are.
08:45Tiki Bobs, uh, you know, in Canada, you know, all the Duallys, and all the Emerald, and
08:50the Clutch Cargo, and, you know, Tonic, it's not even up there anymore, you know, so, I
08:56would just love to hear from anybody, you know, that ever listened.
09:00I, I'm so happy to be back in Detroit.
09:03Uh, the number is 248-544-1051.
09:06I got it written down.
09:07You like that?
09:08I got it right.
09:09Yeah, well, I still have mine written down, too, so that's why.
09:11Okay.
09:11Uh, now, before we get to some calls, uh, I would also like to say that one of my best
09:16friends in the world is DJ Ryan Richards, who is Mr. Throwback.
09:21He was in my wedding, so, like, I had, like, 11 groomsmen.
09:25Yeah.
09:25And, uh, most, the other nine I rented, uh, I didn't know, and the only two groomsmen I
09:32knew was DJ Ryan Richards and my buddy Tim.
09:34The other guys, you can rent groomsmen to make you look cool.
09:37Of course.
09:38And, uh, he just started it at 105 on the bounce, as you know, and he is here right
09:44now, and he was like, yo, big boy, I want to celebrate you coming back to Detroit with
09:51a special big boy mix, like a, like a DJ Ryan Richards weekend rollout from back in the
09:57day.
09:57Right.
09:58And I was like, oh, hell yeah.
10:01All right.
10:01So, we ready to do this?
10:02We are ready to do this.
10:03We ready to do this?
10:04DJ Ryan Richards, if you can, go ahead and pop me up there, and, oh, yeah, that's sexy.
