Thank you. I really appreciate that. That was a great speech. I like that. Thanks, Mike.
00:17
Appreciate you, too. Of course, I want to thank my family. You know, my family's here.
00:25
You know, I see my father. I see my sister, Pat, and my brother, CJ. I know my other sister,
00:35
Sophie, is thinking about us. We lost our mother earlier this year, so it's good to see us
00:45
together on a happy occasion. I want to thank my family, Sharif, Darrell, O'Shea Jackson,
00:56
Jr., Karima, for always giving me the inspiration to be a man, you know, and do what I need to do
01:07
to make them proud. And I want to thank my wife, Kimberly, who's, she's been on this whole journey
01:15
with me. I started in the movie business in 1990. And John Singleton, rest in peace, he's the reason
01:29
I'm standing here today. He was always my mentor. He was always my example. He was my film school.
01:39
I didn't go to film school because I had John Singleton teach me everything I needed to know. And
01:47
Kim was with me. She was just my girlfriend then back in 1990. And she went with me to buy my first
01:57
computer once John Singleton told me, when you gonna write a movie? You think Hollywood got a lot
02:04
of great movies for you? You should write your own movie. And that really inspired me. And we went
02:10
that same day, bought a computer, bought Final Draft. Thank you, Final Draft. Helped me, you know,
02:22
really learn what it took to write a screenplay. But I always been a fan of movies. My father would
02:30
give me, well, my father, brothers and sisters would scrape up money for me to go to the movies
02:35
every week. I would go to the movies every week at the Hard Thorn 68ers. I remember, if anybody
02:42
remember, though. Ah, got you, baby. Hard Thorn 68ers. I was there every week. I saw movies like
02:51
Saturday Night Fever 12 times because back then movies stayed in the same theater forever. So
03:01
I always wanted to go to the movies. So if it was the same movie, I'm gonna see the same movie.
03:08
Um, and I've been able to work with great actors, great Hollywood, uh, vets. You know,
03:15
I've had a chance to work with people like Walter Hill, um, John Voight, uh, Lawrence Fishburne,
03:25
you know, Samuel L. Jackson. I've had a chance to work with the great John Carpenter. Um, I even
03:33
had a chance to work with Pam Greer and my sister, Pat and Clyde. They took me to the Century Theater
03:41
to see two movies. I was too young to see these movies, but they was teenagers and I had to go
03:48
anyway. I was happy to be there, but I saw The Mac that day and I saw Coffee. And I don't
03:59
think I should have been seeing that, but I was happy to be there. And, uh, those movies
04:06
were, were cherished parts of my life. Um, so to be a part of Hollywood in any way, shape
04:13
or form wasn't even really a dream come true. It was just a magical thing. You know, I was
04:20
basically discovered and then I fell in love. I got what's called the movie bug, got bit,
04:27
bit, but I didn't just want to act. I wanted to be behind the scenes. I wanted to produce.
04:32
I wanted to write. I wanted to, um, have a say in the finished product. That's the most
04:40
important thing to me is to have a say in what the people get to, get to see. And so I've
04:47
always given 110% to whatever I was doing in, uh, what, what, what rappers called a movie
04:58
game. Um, it was never a game to me. It was always something that I was, uh, very appreciative
05:08
to be a part of because there's no greater canvas for artists than a movie screen. Nothing
05:17
gets bigger. There's no more way to express yourself better than on a movie screen for artists.
05:25
So being able to paint on a canvas that big with so many, uh, great people, I'm really appreciative.
05:35
And, uh, I want to thank the Chinese theater. I want to thank, uh, Jeff Quantinance, my management,
05:43
uh, we've been in the game for a long time, doing great things together. My whole team from
05:50
BR to Robert Redd to, to, to, to Kibo. And, you know, my whole team that's been with me, uh,
05:57
for a very, very long time. Uh, thank my family for, for putting up with, uh, with, with my
06:06
schedule. I see my man Dub C. We grew up together in the same neighborhood. Uh, Tony Draper, just
06:14
people that's helped me, you know, it's, it's not just been me. So I'm a, I'm a concluding
06:20
because I know the, the, the semen is, uh, getting dry. I want to make sure I can actually
06:25
get my hands in there. So, um, thank you, uh, movie industry. You know, I know a lot of people
06:33
are on the Walk of Fame, but the true movie stars are in front of the Chinese theaters. So I'm happy
06:39
to be here. And, uh, I want to thank all the fans who, uh, been a part of this 35 year
06:46
movie career. Appreciate you, uh, Matt Johnson. Um, a few other people that, that's been behind
06:54
me. Uh, I see QT3. My man's done great music together. Thank you all for coming. Media. Thank
07:03
you, uh, for everybody that, that showed up to hear a young dude from South Central Los Angeles,
07:10
uh, get a chance to express how much, uh, I'm appreciative, um, and I'm living the dream.
07:19
Thank you, Alive Nation. As you see the Truth to Power tours coming to a city near you,
07:26
you know, my first major production tour in over 10 years. And, um,
07:32
we got some great things coming, especially last Friday. That's coming too. Stop asking me about
07:40
it. It's coming. We, we signed the paperwork. Thank you, Mike DeLuca and, uh, uh, Michael Gruber
07:47
and some of the people that helped me get that, uh, made into a reality. Thank you all. Appreciate
07:53
you coming. Much love, much respect from your homeboy, Ice Cube.
