00:00Please help me welcome to the stage a very successful actor and
00:05rapper himself, and had the honor and privilege of playing his father in the hit
00:11Straight Out of Compton.
00:13Please welcome O'Shea Jackson, Jr.
00:23Good morning, everybody.
00:27I am film and television's O'Shea Jackson, Jr.
00:33And the worst-kept secret in Hollywood is that I am the son of O'Shea Jackson,
00:38Sr., better known to you as Ice Cube.
00:42For almost 30 years, I've been asked the same question from schoolyard to red
00:45carpets, what's it like being Ice Cube's son?
00:50It's cool.
00:52Ice Cube's cool, which is the number one quality you want from an Ice Cube.
00:57And as cool as he is, he is nowhere near as cool as O'Shea Jackson, Sr.
01:08And while they are one and the same, there are certain things that I get, that my mother
01:13gets, that my siblings get, that his grandchildren get, that y'all don't get.
01:17You see, as much as my father is known for his iconic scowl, our family is filled with more laughter than most.
01:25He and my mother both love to laugh and have passed that down to their children, and we kept that tradition alive.
01:31And we make sure to always end every conversation, no matter how long, with an I love you.
01:38He's always telling us to be ourselves.
01:40Don't chase what others say is cool.
01:43And if you never lose sight of yourself, you have a life to live with no regrets.
01:50Being a child of Ice Cube, you grow up on sets, movie sets, music video sets, photo shoot sets, sets.
01:58You learn set etiquette, who does what.
02:01And little did I know, he was getting me ready for my first job.
02:04That's right, my first job was in the movies.
02:08A little project you all might know, Are We Done Yet?
02:13I was a PA on Are We Done Yet?
02:15That was my first job.
02:17Shout out to the PAs.
02:20But later on in life, I ended up on the other side of the camera, this time as an actor.
02:24But another project that y'all might know, Janky Promoters.
02:28I know it's not the movie y'all think I'm going to say.
02:30All right, I'm going to get to it.
02:31When I turned 18, my dad took me on the road where my brother Daryl and I worked as a part of his stage crew
02:37and also performed songs with him on tour.
02:41Those times on the road as a young man is where me and my dad became really close.
02:45I've seen my dad do some cool things.
02:48I've seen him blow up a helicopter with a football in Three Kings.
02:52I've seen him take the tires off a car and drive the car onto a train track in XXX.
02:58I don't know if that really works, but it's the movies.
03:01I always felt like he chose Anaconda because my brother Daryl and I were really into reptiles.
03:09He also didn't die, which was nice.
03:13And while my dad is known for the Boys in the Hoods, the Fridays, the Jump Streets, the ride-alongs,
03:20it was movies like the Barbershop franchise, the Are We There Yets and Done Yet, Long Shot,
03:25and even Lottery Ticket that hit me a little harder.
03:28Because those wholesome roles, I got to see the man I knew at home shine.
03:32I got to see my guy.
03:34And All About the Benjamins, because All About the Benjamins is hilarious.
03:42Dad, when you told me today—when you told me about today, you asked me if I would do a speech.
03:47And with no hesitation, I said yes.
03:51Because it was yet another chance for me to tell the world how much I love you.
03:56Another opportunity to make you proud.
03:58And there is no better feeling than knowing you and our mother are proud of us.
04:04But Dad, it cannot be said enough that on behalf of myself, Mama, Darryl, Karima, Sharif, Jordan,
04:13Zeke, and even our dog, Pete, we are so proud of you.
04:21Thank you for everything you've done and continue to do for us and the world.
04:25Your handprint has been on this city for decades.
04:29It's only right that it is cemented forever.
04:34That was nice, right?
04:37Ladies and gentlemen, it is my honor to introduce a man that needs no introduction.
04:42The recipient of this prestigious honor, my father, the great Ice Cube.
