00:00Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Over the past few weeks, I've held a number of town halls and one theme

00:06keeps coming up consistently. Democrats need a cohesive, concise message that clearly lays

00:12out what we're for, not just what we're opposed to. In 1994, old Newt Gingrich drew up a contract

00:19with America. It was a simple set of priorities that Republicans promised to enact if they got

00:25the House majority. Well, at work, the Republicans took the House in the 1994 midterm elections.

00:31Well, I want to propose a contract for America, one that reflects who we are as Democrats. Good

00:38wages, fair taxes, quality education, protecting Social Security and Medicare, expanding veterans

00:44benefits, providing universal health care, environmental conservation, and national

00:49security. We need a message that spells out exactly what we will do to benefit our constituents

00:56and how we will do it. That needs to start right now. Thank you. I yield back.
