00:00He's an addict, so he was going through a lot of stuff, but a lot of it was taken down on me.

00:05And she saw that Tori Spelling is shedding light on her decision to split from her ex, Dean McDermott.

00:10During the April 10th episode of her Miss Spelling podcast,

00:14the reality star shares how her 13-year-old daughter, Hattie,

00:17asked her an important question that encouraged her to break up with Dean.

00:21She looked at me and she goes,

00:23I'm scared to say talk to you about this if you're not ready.

00:27I go, what baby?

00:28And she's like, have you ever considered what it would be like to be with someone else?

00:33And not dad and get treated right?

00:35And Tori, who shares kids, Liam Stella, Hattie Finn, and Belle with Dean,

00:40says the question wasn't about her taking sides.

00:44After all, Tori insists that Hattie, quote, loves her dad.

00:47For us, like it got to the point where it was worse for the kids to see us together

00:52because we could no longer hide what was happening and the fights.

00:56And for so long, I hid it from them to the best of my ability.

01:00I lost my voice while doing it.

01:03And Dean's alcoholism was already a problem and it only got worse from there.

01:08As Tori put it, quote,

01:12Addict having a difficult time and a lot of it was taken out on me.

01:18He's an addict, so for sure he was going through a lot of stuff,

01:21but a lot of it was taken out on me.

01:23And she saw that and,

01:25and,

01:26she saw that and as an addict,

01:29so I was going through a lot of stuff,

01:31but a lot of it was taken out on me and I didn't like the person I was

01:34because I'm trying to raise strong humans

01:37and here I am just taking it and being like,

01:40I'm sorry, I'm sorry.

01:42It's like,

01:42what am I doing, right?

01:44So it was better for us.

01:46Eventually to realize that calling it quieting with Dean was

01:50better for her children than staying together.

01:53It was my part, at least.

01:55The want kids.

01:57The want kids.

01:58Always wanting their parents together.

02:01I think kept me from

02:02ultimately making what was outwardly an easier choice for them

02:06and what they perceived to be the reality between two partners

02:10and, um,

02:11kept me for a long time.
