It's no secret that Bristol is one of the most expensive places to live in the United
00:05
Kingdom. In 2024, the majority of properties sold in the city were terrace properties,
00:12
selling for an average price of £406,500. Flats in the city were sold for an average
00:20
of £283,000, with semi-detached properties fetching around £439,000. This makes the
00:31
average property in Bristol around £390,000, putting the city as one of the highest in
00:39
the UK. But the locals think it is too hard to get on the property ladder in the city
00:44
of Bristol.
00:45
There's obviously a drift on the M4 from London all the time. In fact, I'm guilty of
00:51
that 35 years ago. But I think that's what probably keeps the prices very high. It's
00:58
a desirable city. I can understand why. But it's unaffordable. I have a daughter who's
01:03
looking for a flat, but she can't find anything within the price range. It's very, very tough
01:07
for young people nowadays. I'm lucky to have a place.
01:11
It's a heavy burden. It's a heavy burden. By any case, it's a heavy burden. But if you
01:19
want to live somewhere, there is a price to pay. And then there is the slalom, you know,
01:26
with the prices, with actions in the shop and things. So far, so good, I mean. Rita's
01:34
business is that she's finding the ways how to get cheap food, good food, cheap food.
01:41
There is the local shop, you know, over there, the veg shop, and cheaper and good quality
01:47
than over there in the supermarkets and so on. So it is, you can find a way to cope with
01:54
the heavy burden of taxes and stuff.
01:59
According to the Office of National Statistics, private rents have risen slightly this year
02:04
to an average of £1,761, which shows an annual increase of 1.2% than this time last year.
02:15
But this was lower than the rise in the South West, which was 5.9% last year. But it was
02:22
higher than the average UK rent, which was around £1,333, making Bristol an expensive
02:30
city within the UK to be a private renter. But how do locals feel about renting and do
02:36
they feel renters get good value for money?
02:39
Again, I think it's very competitive with London. And I think that's the problem. You
02:44
know, they're very, very high rentals. And again, very hard to find, I gather. I mean,
02:48
I've not been looking for a place, obviously, but I do understand that they're very difficult
02:52
to find.
02:53
That's all for the moment.
