Locals are concerned about the rising prices at Bristol's 'most up and coming' neighbourhood - "If we price creative people out of Bristol, it's not going to be Bristol anymore"

Locals shared their concerns about the rising prices when we visited the ‘most up and coming’ neighbourhood in Bristol.
The rate at which house prices are rising can give an indication of the most up and coming areas of Bristol.
It’s not too surprising the City Centre and Harbourside had the highest rise (20.5426%) in the last year.
We visited the harbourside to find out what locals think of the area.

House prices rising could be a sign that an area is up and coming.
00:04
It was not much of a surprise when Bristol City Centre and Harbourside
00:08
had the biggest increase in the last year, with house prices rising by over 20%.
00:14
Let's find out what locals think of the area.
00:17
I think the fountains could be flowing.
00:20
I think it could do with more energy, as we can see with homelessness
00:27
and the increase of prices on all fronts.
00:32
But it has an effect on the population.
00:35
I think just very simple things like putting colourful lights in this strip of trees
00:40
opposite the watershed would make a difference.
00:45
I think it's got such potential.
00:48
It's lovely to come to a peaceful place of water.
00:52
Me and my husband do walk along the Harbourside
00:55
and we do take full advantage, when we can, of the festivals here.
00:59
So I think Bristol does a lot, but I think it could go that little bit extra.
01:05
The use of light, particularly at night time and projections.
01:09
Very simple things that we could do to really add that extra bit of sparkle
01:15
and bring a real sense of pride to the city centre.
01:22
I love the Harbourside itself.
01:24
I love walking round there and the different cafes and buildings that are there.
01:31
It's a really good exercise on a nice day.
01:38
The city centre is a bit run down, to put it mildly.
01:42
It'll be different when M&S come back, but it is run down.
01:47
There's lots of shops around and I like how they still have lots of the old architecture as well.
01:55
I do particularly like down by the M Shed.
01:59
Just walking by the canal, it's really pretty, especially at sunset or sunrise.
02:06
I do feel it's very, very expensive here in Bristol, definitely in the centre of town.
02:13
Whether it's to go to a cafe or try and find a place to live.
02:18
I think it's a really great place. It's where everything is.
02:23
It's the centre. If you're a student and you're going out,
02:26
you'll end up walking through city centre on your way to whichever club you're going to.
02:30
So it does really feel like a hub, especially at the bottom of Park Street.
02:34
It's always been a hub for creatives and for young people and for people working in arts industries.
02:41
If we price those people out of Bristol, it's just not going to be Bristol anymore, is it?
02:48
It lives for its arts and its culture.
02:50
If you make it that people working those kinds of alternative careers can't afford living here,
02:55
then it's not going to become the city that everybody loves.
