00:00Hi there. Just like March is said to do according to weather law, this forecast period is expected

00:07to go in like a lion and go out like a lamb. And certainly it is an unsettled start to

00:13the period with a band of rain crossing the country from the north-west to the south-east.

00:17Some heavy bursts associated with this rain as it clears the southern half of the UK overnight.

00:23But clearer skies are following behind and the winds, although blustery, could ease in

00:29a few spots to give a touch of frost into the north-east of Scotland. And just ahead

00:34of the front, actually, it will be chilly in the far south-east, 2-4C by dawn ahead

00:39of the approaching cloud. So it will be a dry start to the far south-east but it doesn't

00:44last long. The weather front is moving through and it's going to clear the Midlands and the

00:49south-west by 7 or 8am. But it won't be until lunchtime that it clears parts of East Anglia

00:55and south-east England. Brighter skies do follow for all of us by the afternoon, though,

00:59albeit with those gusty winds and frequent showers. The showers most frequent across

01:04north-western parts of the UK, particularly western Scotland, merging to give longer spells

01:07of rain. And mixed in with thunder, hail, hill snow as well. It's going to feel cold

01:13in that wind coming from the north-west. Certainly drop in temperatures in the south even as

01:18the sun does return into the afternoon, 12-14C expected. But notably fresh across the north-west,

01:258-9C and feeling even colder given the strength of the wind. But in between the showers, as

01:31I mentioned, there will be some bright spells and certainly across southern areas the showers

01:35peter out into the evening on Friday. Clear skies then developing extensively as we start

01:41the weekend, although still some showers remaining across central and north-western parts of

01:46Scotland and the cloud thickens by the end of the night into Northern Ireland. But where

01:50we do have those long-lasting clear spells, temperatures will fall away. Low single figures

01:54in places. A touch of frost to wake up to on Saturday. A chilly start for most of us,

01:59but a bright start. Beautiful weather around first thing Saturday. Temperatures responding

02:03well as a result and we keep those sunny spells going across central and eastern parts of

02:08England into the afternoon. But further north-west, another front moves through. That's going

02:13to bring some persistent rain. Mostly light to moderate for western parts of England and

02:16Wales turning up around the middle of the afternoon for many. Heavier for Scotland and

02:21Northern Ireland, but it does push through, followed by further showers and again, gusty

02:26winds. So that's going to make it feel cool once more across north-west Scotland, 8-10

02:31Celsius. Further south-east where we do get some sunshine and lighter winds, not so bad,

02:3614, perhaps 15 Celsius if we do get enough sunny spells. But as I say, it's going to

02:42turn cloudier with some more rain moving through across western parts as we end Saturday. That

02:48then clears as a weakening front because higher pressures building in from the south

02:53as we go into Sunday. Much more widespread sunny skies then developing and Monday, the

02:58last day of March, going out like a lamb with that high pressure bringing plenty of settled
