Like most other sectors of Pakistan’s economy, the artificial intelligence sector is dominated by men. But Mehwish Salman Ali, the CEO of Data Vault Pakistan, is trying to change that — one code at a time.

00:00So, we are introducing regional plus Urdu languages to the world.

00:25So, for example, if there is a woman who only speaks a Saraiki language or a Pashto language,

00:30she can ask GPT in Pashto language whatever she needs as well.

00:33Isn't it great?

00:34And that GPT is going to answer you according to your culture, according to your values.

00:48I guess the entire world is male-dominated, but West is doing a lot of things to include

00:52women.

00:53In Pakistan, I see there is a lot of resistance still.

00:58We are growing, but I guess we need more time to be there.

01:12Society will label you as characterless for that, just because you are a woman.

01:15If a man is working entire night into the office, he's a hero.

01:18See how hard is he working, see how beautifully he is managing everything, but when a woman

01:23does the same, it's not accepted in the same way by the society.

01:32I'm not saying that I will give a woman a priority if her skills are low, but I'm saying

01:36if the skills are the same of both men and women, then I will give a priority to women,

01:40because definitely we all need more women into our industry.
