The Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur has set August 1 for the next mention of the corruption case involving Sayed Amir Muzzakkir Al Sayed Mohamad, the former political secretary to then Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

00:00The Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur has set August 1st for the next mention of the corruption case
00:06involving Syed Amir Muzakir Al-Sayed Muhammad, the former political secretary to then Home
00:12Minister Datuk Seri Hamza Zainuddin. The postponement was granted after Syed Amir's
00:18lawyer informed the court that the defense had yet to receive several key documents from the
00:23prosecution, delaying the submission of necessary court filings. Sessions Court Judge Rosli Ahmad
00:29allowed the request and fixed the new date accordingly. According to the charge,
00:34Syed Amir is accused of accepting a 350,000 ringgit bribe from one Azhar Muhammad Yusuf,
00:41the managing director of Nexus Corp group Sendirian Berhad, during his tenure as political secretary.
00:48The bribe was allegedly an inducement to assist Nexus Corp in securing a government tender
00:53worth over 381 million ringgit for the provision of maintenance services and the supply of spare
01:00parts, infrastructure equipment, servers, software and user radios for the Royal Malaysia Police's
01:07RMP-NET system. The alleged offenses occurred at the Yaya Santana Aku office in Solaris Dutamas
01:13on December 4th and 16th, 2020. Syed Amir was charged under Section 16 Subsection A Subsection A
01:22of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in
01:29prison and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe or 10,000 ringgit, whichever is
01:35higher, upon conviction.
