00:00
that rain is increasing flood risks for the area. Some areas are expecting up to
00:05
eight inches of rain in an area, maybe a little west southwest of Corpus Christi.
00:09
Meanwhile, the weekend weather outlook could be even more intense for others.
00:13
As another major storm moves across the country, it'll bring severe weather,
00:17
damaging wind and even the chance for isolated tornadoes. Over a dozen states
00:20
could see some of the impacts of the severe weather and a chance for
00:23
extended severe storms carrying east in through Monday for the southeast. Let's
00:29
take you to Puerto Rancis, Texas right now. And this area has been very wet. We
00:34
have the white caps out there. It is kind of a disruptive time for anybody
00:39
who had planned on maybe some late spring break beach action. You could see
00:43
people driving on the beaches. There is a cool spot where you can do that. But
00:47
overall, the rain is pretty widespread into south central and southeast Texas
00:53
areas around Victoria, Corpus Christi, turning the lightning strikes on. You
00:57
could see that there is a lot of that, especially offshore, but also extending
01:01
north and west up into the hill country west of San Antonio and to the north up
01:05
near Bernie, Texas as well. There's a pretty intense, non severe storm moving
01:09
through an area west of Interstate 35, a little bit southwest of Fowl Furious,
01:14
moving through a slightly less populated area, but lots of lightning
01:17
out there into southwest Texas. It's bringing some drought relief, and the
01:21
only severe storm in the nation right now is this one approaching Picos, Texas
01:25
between I-10 and I-20. It has crossed I-10, turning the reports on. I'm not
01:30
surprised that we're not finding a whole lot of that being reported yet because
01:35
this is a pretty desolate area if you are east of Balmeria, and it looks like
01:39
the hail core. It did cross I-10, but it passed east of there at this point. So
01:45
again, lots of lightning. We'll track this severe thunderstorm warning for a
01:49
little bit longer. It's in effect for an area south of Picos, Texas, and again
01:53
turning the warning back on here. This is running until 5-15 for a part of
01:58
Interstate 20 at this point, well northwest of Fort Stockton, approaching
02:02
Picos, Texas. So the drought monitor shows that we're dealing with a lot of
02:05
issues here. We've had some ongoing drought, a significant drought, and even
02:11
extreme and exceptional drought on the yellows and the dark browns on this map
02:16
here. The dark brown, that's almost black, showing where the drought is at
02:19
the highest end of the drought severity index. So again, the overall exceptional
02:25
drought pops up on our drought severity index there near San Antonio and also
02:29
into West Texas, and we're getting some rain there. That's good news in those
02:32
areas. Just into areas like Lubbock, north of the rain, we're at 83 there, 73
02:38
into Jackson, and the rain's knocked us down to 71 in Corpus Christi. So decent
02:42
rain continuing to fall in these areas here over the next few days. We'll be
02:45
watching, and some of the heaviest rain on Thursday will fall in San
02:50
Antonio, Houston, Odessa, Lubbock, Texas. And again, we have some severe weather
02:55
possible in this area here. We'll be tracking all that here through the next
02:58
few days into Thursday night and Friday. Some risk of flash flooding. The most
03:02
extreme rainfall will be out there into Texas on Friday. Drenching downpours in
03:07
east Texas still. That slides east. There's your rainfall forecast. Some
03:10
areas seeing eight plus inches northwest of Corpus Christi.
