Hello, I'm Gill Buchanan, the editor of the Volker Keralt, and I'm here to tell you about
00:04
some of the stories that are making the headlines in our print edition, which is on sale now.
00:08
This week, we tell of the court story of a young mum from the Volker area who has been
00:12
found guilty of the culpable homicide of her partner after she stabbed him through the
00:16
heart. Dionne Christie was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date.
00:22
Meanwhile, the long-awaited Project Willow report on the future of Grangemouth has been
00:27
published. While it says that 800 green jobs could be created in the area over the next
00:32
15 years, it also notes that £3.5 billion of private investment will be needed for that
00:38
to happen. Volker Council has admitted it is owed millions of pounds in unpaid council
00:44
tax. The figures were revealed after a Freedom of Information request came from the Conservatives.
00:51
A new book which gives details of those whose names are carved on Bainsford War Memorial
00:55
has been published. Thanks to local historian Ian Scott, it also gives details of the war
01:00
years in the area and how those left at home fared during both world wars.
01:05
We've got lots of fundraising stories this week, including a brave granny who abseiled
01:09
off the Falkirk Wheel for the Muscular Dystrophy Charity, which supports her grandson and family.
01:15
There's also an update on a BBC crime drama which has been filmed in Grangemouth.
01:21
A successful takeaway and catering business, Three Little Pigs, prepares to expand. Owner
01:26
Izzy Kerr tells us all about her success story.
01:30
And it's congratulations to two couples celebrating very special anniversaries. The Hendersons
01:36
of Pullman marking 60 years of marriage and the Risks of Grangemouth with 50 years, while
01:42
school cook Tricia McKell retires after 30 years working up and tasking primary.
01:47
In a retro section, historian Ian Scott reveals more about one of the area's gems, the village
01:53
of Dunmore. In sport, there's golden success for young Falkirk Vix athletes, as well as
01:59
wins for members of Forth Valley Orienteers, while table tennis player Lara Stirling from
02:04
Shield Hill is hoping for another Scottish title. We've got all our usual basketball
02:09
and football coverage, including a win for the Shire over Celtic Beat. All these stories
02:14
and lots more are in a print edition and also online at www.falkirkerald.co.uk. Thank you.
