00:55Alright, Doc. What are the types of contraceptives and what are the most common ones that are being used now?

01:05Okay. Maybe we need to categorize the contraceptive pills or contraception for that matter into long-acting contraceptive.

01:17Meaning, the long-term use.

01:20The intrauterine device or the small metal with a little plastic that is placed inside the uterus.

01:31So that, it can last for 5 to 10 years.

01:35Aside from that, another long-acting is the implant.

01:40The implant or the next implant is placed inside the arm and it can last for 3 years.

01:49So after the long-acting contraception, we also have the so-called permanent or irreversible.

01:57Like the bilateral tubal ligation.

02:00That is when the female's tubes are tied and when it's a male, it's vasectomy.

02:07And then, we have the most reversible, the oral contraceptive pills.

04:57So for less than 10% of the patients, they can experience breast pain.

05:16Or sometimes, your head hurts.

05:19But these side effects would usually go away after three months of use or even less.

05:26The rare side effects, the so-called venous thromboembolism,

05:34can be encountered in less than 0.1% of those using the pills.

05:42So maybe the most common concern of our countrymen who want to use the pills

05:50is that they think they're going to gain weight with the use of the pills.

06:01the weight gain with the use of the pills is very minimal.

06:07Usually, the weight gain is because we're getting older,

06:11our metabolism slows down, or it really depends on our lifestyle.
