00:00Meanwhile, let's find out how and why the country became a member of the International Criminal Court or ICC.

00:09Let's also find out who are the personalities that are being judged and the cases that are still being heard.

00:15For now, let's take a look at the details of the country's news of PTV.

00:22In August 2011, the Philippines became the 117th state to become a member of the International Criminal Court.

00:29The ICC is a base-independent body that fights against genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and crimes of aggression.

00:37It is based in The Hague, Netherlands.

00:39But this March 2019, the Philippines left the ICC.

00:44This is after the subsequent filing of cases against Duterte in The Hague.

00:48This includes the war against drugs that was the source of crimes against humanity.

00:53As of now, 32 cases were filed in the International Criminal Court since it was established in 2002.

00:59Within more than two decades, only two were convicted of crimes against humanity in the ICC.

01:05This includes Alhassan Abdul Aziz of Mali who was sentenced for 10 years.

01:11He is guilty of torture and mutilation as the chief of the Islamic Police in Mali.

01:16The sentence of Congolese warlord Jermaine Katanga is 12 years.

01:20In total, there are six pending cases of crimes against humanity in the ICC.

01:26Former President Duterte will face ICC judges.

01:29He is also a suspect in crimes against humanity of murder.

01:32The confirmation of charges hearing is scheduled for September 23, 2025.

01:38This is where we will know if there is sufficient evidence that will be submitted to Digong before it is transferred to the trial chamber.
