00:00The Europeans say they want a just and lasting peace.

00:04I mean, do you see the European vision as being at odds with the vision of this new administration in Washington?

00:12I think a little bit. And again, I relate this to the education process that the new administration is going through.

00:20I respect the Europeans. They have a long, very long history with Russia.

00:26And they hold Russia at arm's length because they don't trust them.

00:31And I believe their approach is a little bit more realistic than what Washington, D.C. is taking.

00:37But again, I'm hoping that as Washington gets more experienced with dealing with the Russians,

00:43that they will realize that these are people that you have to be very,

00:47very careful with in terms of listening to what their negotiation positions are and to what it is they are actually proposing.

00:55Because if there's a way to twist the words down the road and back out of commitments,

01:01the Russians have honed that to a fine science over the years.

01:04But hopefully we'll get peace out of this. But we're just going to have to wait and see.
