Severe storm threats on the way from the Plains to the Midwest

There's a very active stretch of severe weather ahead for mid-March across much of the middle of the U.S.

00:00So up until I'd say the afternoon drive time everything is going to be great. If you like

00:03the weather today you're going to love the weather tomorrow but right around four to five o'clock

00:08across the I-35 corridor we will be watching out for severe thunderstorms popping up across the

00:12region. Future track radar is showing those thunderstorms popping up right across I-35

00:17between four and five p.m. After that the storm is going to work the way off to the east and to

00:22the northeast so we will see a risk of severe weather there across east eastern Oklahoma,

00:26east Texas and lifting into central parts there of Arkansas and then it's going to slowly work

00:31its way off to the east into Tennessee primarily as we head into the late evening hours but we're

00:36also watching for Wednesday and Thursday an elevated risk of fire danger across west Texas

00:40and southeastern parts of New Mexico. Heading into Friday this is going to be the highest risk

00:46of fire weather and fire danger we have seen so far this season across the Texas Panhandle,

00:52western Oklahoma and eastern parts there of New Mexico so heads up for that and then as

00:56we head into late Friday another risk of severe weather stretching from pretty much the Great

01:00Lakes all the way down through the Gulf Coast here as we head throughout Friday afternoon into

01:05Friday evening even Friday night here for some areas. The overall storm threats we are tracking

01:10damaging winds, damaging hail and tornado that those threats will be elevated. The flooding

01:15threat will be elevated as well but not quite as high because of how fast these storms will be

01:20moving. Here's an overall view of the risk area primarily for tornadoes. This extends from eastern

01:25Oklahoma into portions of Illinois and Indiana here so this is where we're primarily watching

01:30for that highest risk there of tornadoes. In addition to the severe weather threat and the

01:35fire danger that we've been talking about there's also going to be a chance of blizzards here across

01:39the northern plains especially that I-29 corridor between North Dakota and Minnesota as we head

01:44throughout Friday into Saturday. How much snowfall we expected to see? Widespread three to six even

01:50six to twelve inches there in that darkest shade of blue and then as we head into Saturday more

01:54severe weather chances in the forecast there across the Gulf Coast into the northeast so this

01:59is going to be a very active stretch of weather here over the next couple of days.
