00:00
Hi there. After a dry but quite cold start to February so far, a big change is on the
00:05
way as we go through the next few days, turning much, much milder but also wetter and windier.
00:10
And out towards the west, we've already got that change underway today, a band of rain
00:13
pushing eastwards across Wales, Northern Ireland and South West England. But eastern areas
00:18
of the UK will stay mostly dry after a chilly and frosty start in places and a little bit
00:23
of brightness perhaps through this afternoon. Further west, though, the next batch of wet
00:27
weather comes into Wales, South West England and Northern Ireland later this afternoon.
00:32
It will be a much, much milder picture out towards the west compared to recent days,
00:36
temperatures reaching 12 or 13 degrees, so well above average for the time of year, but
00:40
still quite chilly out towards the east, just highs of five or six degrees in many places.
00:45
And it will be quite a windy day, particularly across northern Scotland where gales are possible
00:50
around some coasts. Through this evening, that next batch of rain starts to push its
00:55
way eastwards across the UK. Some heavy bursts of rain in places and also even the chance
01:00
of the odd rumble of thunder here and there, particularly out towards western coasts. Stay
01:05
mostly dry across south east England, but I wouldn't want to rule out a little bit of
01:08
patchy rain here and there. And turning increasingly windy and mild as we go through the night,
01:13
those temperatures really rising as we go towards the morning. So definitely a frost
01:18
free start tomorrow morning. Temperatures in the west, 12 or 13 degrees as we begin
01:24
the morning, well above average for the time of year. But it will be windy with those higher
01:29
temperatures, so particularly unsettled picture as we go through the next few days. Low pressure
01:35
dominating the Atlantic, bringing in those mild southwesterly winds, pushing the cold
01:40
weather back towards eastern Europe. A wet and windy picture for many of us on Thursday.
01:44
Spurls of rain, heavy in places. Again, not much in the way of rain down across the south
01:49
east and far south of England. Following on the main band of rain, we will see a mixture
01:53
of sunny spells and scattered heavy and blustery showers, potentially with the odd rumble of
01:58
thunder mixed in there as well. But look at these temperatures on Thursday, well above
02:03
average for the time of year and temperatures we haven't seen for several weeks. 12 to 14
02:08
degrees Celsius. In any brightness we could even see 15 degrees, so very, very much milder
02:13
than it has been. But it will be quite windy, particularly across the west. We could see
02:17
gales in some coastal regions, so that will accentuate and make it feel as mild as those
02:21
temperatures suggest. The bigger picture shows it staying unsettled through Friday.
02:27
Potentially some very strong winds for a time through the Irish Sea. A bit of a respite,
02:31
but still a few showers around on Saturday. And then further wet and windy weather could
02:35
see this area of low pressure moving in for the second half of the weekend. Make sure

everything from me. I'll see you again soon.
