Hello, here's your latest weather update from the Met Office. I'm Marco Petania. We've seen
00:04
a cold and chilly north-westerly airstream across the UK over the course of the weekend.
00:08
But things are starting to turn milder from the west now. Notice the yellows and orange
00:12
temperature contours moving in from the west over the next few days. A south-westerly airstream
00:16
introducing much higher temperatures into the Christmas period.
00:19
Looking at things in more detail for today now though, after a chilly start across the
00:23
south and east, it's mostly fine today. Plenty of sunshine certainly this morning, but more
00:27
clouds starting to move in from the west during the course of the afternoon. That cloud though
00:30
always thick enough out towards the north and west of the UK to give some outbreaks
00:34
of rain. That rain turning heavier and more persistent, more widespread in fact into the
00:38
afternoon and a few heavy bursts affecting Northern Ireland for a time, moving in across
00:42
Irish Sea areas during the course of the afternoon.
00:45
The breeze starts to pick up again after easing during the first part of the day and temperatures
00:49
still quite chilly towards the south and east of the UK, peaking this afternoon at around
00:53
4 to 6 Celsius, that's still a few degrees below the seasonal average. It was out towards
00:58
the west and north-west that rain introduced in much milder air, so by the end of the day
01:01
temperatures here up to 9 or 10 Celsius, 10 down towards Plymouth there, it's 50 in Fahrenheit
01:06
and a few degrees above the seasonal average.
01:10
As we head into the evening and through the overnight period, the cloud and outbreaks
01:13
of rain across those western and northern areas makes inroads across other parts of
01:17
the UK, so we head into a pretty murky night into Christmas Eve morning. Lots of low cloud
01:22
around, some hill fog in places, bits and pieces of rain and drizzle, the rain most
01:25
widespread towards the north-west of the UK, but given the cloud, a bit of a breeze too,
01:30
it's much milder than in recent nights, a generally frost-free night in fact, with temperatures
01:34
generally holding up into the low, mid, locally even upper single figures.
01:38
As for Christmas Eve itself, well they're pretty grey days in store I'm afraid, lots
01:41
of low cloud around, given some hill fog in places too, bits and pieces of rain and drizzle,
01:46
mainly though reserved for the north-west of the UK, one or two heavy bursts across
01:49
the west of Scotland. Elsewhere, we could see the odd chink of brightness, but on the
01:52
whole, as I say, there will be a lot of cloud around. Given that south-westerly breeze though,
01:56
a much milder day than in recent days, temperatures widely in double figures, peaking in the afternoon
02:01
at 12 to 13 Celsius, 13 out towards the west for example there, 55 in Fahrenheit and well
02:06
above the seasonal average.
02:08
We hold onto a lot of cloud though going through the rest of the Christmas period, the cloud
02:11
thick enough in places to give the odd spot of drizzle, rain though mainly reserved for
02:16
the north-west of the UK, and wherever you are, those temperatures stay above the seasonal
02:19
average with plenty of frost-free weather in store.
02:22
That's pretty much it from me, but of course you can keep tuned to The Metaphysics Forecast
02:26
by following us on social media and by subscribing to our YouTube channel. I'll see you soon,
02:31
take care and have a happy Christmas. Bye bye for now.
