00:00
Good morning. There wasn't a huge amount of sunshine off on Saturday, but I am hopeful
00:04
that we'll see more of that through the course of today. Generally, quite cloudy conditions
00:08
though for many across the north and the west to begin the day, quite wet and windy across
00:12
western Scotland in particular. This band of rain will slowly make its way southwards
00:16
and eastwards across the UK through the course of the day, but generally fragmenting as it
00:20
does so, so not much more than the odd showery outbreak by this afternoon. After a cold and
00:25
frosty start across the south and the east of the UK, here it should be a much sunnier
00:29
day than yesterday. Plenty of blue skies and sunshine, and that sunshine extending into
00:34
parts of the Midlands and perhaps Lincolnshire as well as we go towards this afternoon. It
00:38
will also turn sunnier across the west of Scotland and Northern Ireland, so a much brighter
00:42
end to the day to come here too. Temperatures ranging quite close to average for the time
00:47
of year, 7 or 8 degrees for many of us, perhaps 9 or 10 in the mildest spots, so not feeling
00:52
too bad at all for the time of year in the sunshine. That band of fragmented rain starts
00:58
to make its way a bit further southwards and eastwards as we go through this evening,
01:01
but generally not more than a band of cloud by the time we get to the early hours of Monday.
01:05
Ahead of that, some clear skies remaining across the east of Anglia and across the very
01:09
far south-east of England. So here, one or two freezing fog patches are possible in the
01:13
countryside and certainly a widespread frost. Temperatures here in the countryside perhaps
01:16
down to minus 3 or minus 4 in a few spots, generally much milder elsewhere with temperatures
01:22
not falling much below 3 or 4 degrees and some places 5 or 6 degrees in the north-west.
01:28
So we will start to see the next band of rain pushing into the north-west of Scotland by
01:32
the time we get to tomorrow morning and that will be bringing some strong to gale force
01:35
winds as we go through the course on Monday. So generally a much wetter and windier picture
01:40
once again, particularly for north-west Scotland where the rain will be particularly heavy
01:44
and persistent. But some rain also encroaching into other parts of Scotland and Northern
01:49
Ireland through the day, so a bit of a damp picture here. Many parts of England and Wales
01:52
though will get away with a largely dry day. There could be just one or two light showers
01:56
across central and southern England and parts of the Midlands but you'll be very unlucky
02:00
if you catch one of these. Most places will stay dry and it should brighten up a little
02:03
bit for Northern England, parts of Wales and the south-west. Temperatures again, quite
02:08
close to average but a little bit higher than over the weekend. So we could see 9 or 10
02:13
degrees a little bit more widely and the winds will start to ease a little bit down towards
02:17
the south. As we go through the week ahead we are going to see this cold front bringing
02:21
that band of rain across the country on Tuesday. So some heavier bursts of rain perhaps even
02:26
in the south for a time. It turns colder then for a time on Wednesday with wintry showers
02:31
across Scotland but then high pressure builds across the whole of the UK as we go towards
02:35
Wednesday and Thursday. So that's going to bring a much more settled and fine picture
02:39
for the end of the week. Make sure you subscribe so you never miss an update and I'll see you
02:44
again very soon.
