Dave, we got our hands full once again, this what we're calling the February
00:03
frenzy continues. This is week two of it, more or less for this parade of
00:08
storms across the northeast. Uh, so overall, as we look ahead to the
00:12
impacts here, I'm gonna bring up some of the watches and warnings. You can
00:15
see that we've got the winter storm warnings up here in the deep blue
00:18
across D. C. What are you most concerned about in the short term for tomorrow
00:23
is this first storm begins to take over?
00:26
Yeah, like you said, I think this is really going to be a mid atlantic
00:29
special here. A D. C. Baltimore, you know, 3 to 6 inches. And I think there
00:33
will be areas, um, you know, in that region that get over six, maybe 678
00:39
inches. And I think the timing of it is not going to be very favorable for the
00:44
evening commute. The morning will be fine, but the evening commute could be
00:47
a real mess in those areas. As you get up toward Philadelphia, we're looking
00:52
at their kind of at the edge of the 3 to 6, maybe closer to the three than
00:55
the six. And their snow is really not getting in here until pretty late in
01:00
the day, maybe after four or five or so. So what will begin to impact the
01:05
evening commute in Philadelphia, but not as much so as you will see in D. C.
01:09
And in Baltimore, um, and you get to New York City, they're not gonna get
01:14
their snow, uh, probably until Tuesday night. And they're looking at less
01:19
there 2 to 4, with two, probably the more likely than the four. And Dave, as
01:26
with recent storms, it's not 100% snow in all areas. So this is a colder
01:30
storm track. There are a few areas in the interior of Virginia where we have
01:34
some concerns about ice. Do you expect this to be a widespread problem? And
01:38
who might it affect? Yeah, I think the areas are certainly going to be more
01:42
suppressed to the south where they get the, uh, you know, to get the ice with
01:47
this storm, just because we have a deeper cold layer. And that's why, you
01:50
know, D. C. And Baltimore, Philadelphia, you're just getting snow out of this.
01:53
But, yeah, I think that portion of central western Virginia, that's the
01:58
area to watch. There'll be a zone in there that they get mostly ice out of
02:02
this, and I think they have could have a pretty serious accretion of ice in a
02:07
small area. And the number to beat, I think, is 6.8 inches for D. C. For the
02:12
greatest snow so far this season. And you mentioned that areas like central
02:17
Virginia in the line of fire here for some pretty decent snow. Do we think
02:20
there will be more snow north or south of D. C.
02:24
Uh, it's probably gonna be right around or just south of D. C. The way it's
02:28
track tracking right now could actually be leaving a little bit to the west
02:31
southwest. So we'll see how the banding sets up here, but it will certainly be,
02:36
you know, within 10 15 20 miles at most of D. C. Proper. And there you have
02:42
the Philadelphia forecast. As you hinted, we're kind of hedging our
02:45
numbers near the lower end of that 3 to 6 inch range with the plows be out
02:49
there into Philadelphia as well. But Dave, that's not the whole story.
02:52
There's another storm that follows this one. How will this one at midweek
02:56
Wednesday and Thursday behave?
02:59
Yeah, this one's gonna be a much different character. We're gonna see a
03:02
primary low pressure system, the main storm tracking up west of the
03:06
mountains up to the Ohio Valley into the eastern Great Lakes. The storm
03:10
probably ends up near Buffalo or Niagara Falls by early on Thursday
03:14
morning. You'll see some kind of a little pointer or a very weak
03:19
secondary low forming south and east, but there'll be a lot more of a push
03:23
of mild air aloft and that and so you'll see less snow and more in the
03:28
way of sleep, freezing rain and then eventually even plain rain. You'll have
03:31
a good warming that comes up the coastal plain and also west of the
03:35
mountains and the hefty snow be well west in places like Chicago, where we
03:39
haven't seen a ton of snow this this winter. Final question for you, Dave.
03:42
As we just kind of close out this conversation, there's another storm on
03:46
the map for the end of the week for California, and that's gonna run a whole
03:51
the whole gamut here across the nation. What do we expect in the Northeast
03:54
tied to this one? Right at that's again that storm number three here in this
03:58
series, and that's that is on target right now, Jeff, to get into the eastern
04:04
part of the country here this weekend, sometime later Saturday, Saturday night,
04:08
perhaps into part of Sunday. So and that is also has a little bit more, let's
04:14
say, a warmer look to it with more rain and less in the way of snow and ice.
04:18
All right, Accuweather meteorologist and Northeast expert Dave Dombek. Thanks
04:21
again as always, Dave. You bet. Have a great evening. You too, Dave.
