The top legal officials of the federal Sabah and Sarawak governments will hold discussions
00:05
to review the legitimacy of the demand for Sabah and Sarawak to be allocated one-third
00:10
of the seats in the Dewan Rakyat.
00:12
In a written reply, Law and Institutional Reform Minister Azalina Uthman Syed said this
00:17
was agreed on by the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council at a meeting
00:22
on September 12.
00:24
Azalina said Putrajaya's Legal Affairs Division was supposed to prepare a memorandum for the
00:28
cabinet to consider after it was tabled to the MA63 Action Council.
00:33
Azalina also said the AGC had not received any official proposal for Sabah and Sarawak
00:38
to be allocated an additional 15 Senate seats each through amendments to the constitution.
00:44
The current Dewan Rakyat comprises 222 members, with 25 from Sabah and 31 from Sarawak, for
00:50
a combined 25.2% share of the voting power.
00:54
Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Obeng had said that possessing a third of the representation
00:58
would be crucial for the Borneo states to prevent the federal government from trying
01:02
to nullify the provisions of MA63.
