Police charge 23-year-old man with murder of Tamworth toddler

A two-year-old boy died in hospital after being found with significant injuries in a Tamworth home in January. Police say a 23-year-old man was arrested in Gunnedah on Friday and has been charged with murder.

00:00Emergency services were first called to an address in South Tamworth on Saturday, January

00:0818, where they found a two-year-old child unresponsive.

00:12The young boy was treated at the scene before being taken to Tamworth Base Hospital, where

00:18he later died.

00:19Police say the boy suffered significant injuries and the emergency call was made by a member

00:25of his family.

00:27On Friday, police from the Oxley Police District and the State's Homicide Squad arrested a

00:3223-year-old man in the nearby town of Gunnedah.

00:36He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and later charged with murder.

00:40The male was known to the child in a domestic capacity.

00:43We don't believe anyone else is at risk.

00:45We're not looking for any other person in relation to this matter.

00:55Tamworth Police Inspector Tom Aylett addressed a media conference at the Tamworth Police

00:59Station today where he told reporters the man was known to police.

01:04He was refused bail at Parramatta Court on Saturday and he'll remain in custody until

01:09his next court appearance in April.
