The Bureau of Meteorology has issued its national forecast for Friday, January 24.

00:00Hello, Miriam at the Bureau with your national weather forecast for tomorrow, Friday the 24th of January.

00:06Now, tomorrow's weather map shows us a couple of weak troughs crossing Tasmania,

00:11which are bringing a few showers to parts of southeastern Australia.

00:14We've also got showers in the north as well as thunderstorms, which are pushing down parts of the east coast.

00:20Now, those are largely driven by the low-pressure trough sitting across northern and central parts of the continent,

00:26which is very slow moving this week.

00:28Otherwise, we've got our severe to extreme intensity heatwaves ongoing across much of the continent,

00:34particularly for parts of the southwest and the northeast.

00:37As always, let's take a closer look at all of that now, starting with Queensland.

00:42So, heat and storms remain the story of the day for Queensland tomorrow.

00:46We've got those storms across northern and eastern parts of the state once again,

00:50with the risk of severe storms bringing damaging winds and large hail to parts of the east.

00:56Now, we have a dedicated severe weather video for those thunderstorms and the risk that they will bring,

01:02so you can find all of the details around that situation in our other video.

01:06It will be sunnier and drier the further inland you go, however, with heatwaves continuing.

01:12Now, those heatwaves are severe to locally extreme through much of east-central and southeastern Queensland,

01:18low intensity ongoing across parts of the west.

01:21And it will be a particularly hot day for Brisbane.

01:23We've got a forecast top of 37 degrees tomorrow, with a shower or two on the forecast,

01:28so it will feel quite muggy as well.

01:31For New South Wales, we are looking at showers continuing across the eastern parts of the state,

01:35with the risk of thunderstorms about the northern coastline.

01:39Now, we may see severe storms through parts of the northeast, mostly about the coast and along the adjacent ranges.

01:45Again, you can find the details for those thunderstorms in today's severe weather update video.

01:51We're also going to see heat really continuing across northern parts of New South Wales.

01:55We've got low to severe intensity heatwaves ongoing for parts of the north,

02:00as well as extreme fire dangers likely for the northern slopes.

02:04It will be milder through southern and southeastern parts, however.

02:07For Sydney, we're heading for a milder top of 26 degrees, 27 down in Canberra.

02:13Partly cloudy with a few morning showers for southern Victoria tomorrow,

02:18gradually clearing out later in the afternoon.

02:20It will be a dry and mostly sunny day throughout the day inland.

02:24For Melbourne, we're heading for a mostly cloudy top of 23 degrees tomorrow.

02:29Tasmania can expect those two weak fronts to move across the state during the day,

02:33bringing a few showers to parts with generally low rainfall totals,

02:37mostly through those western areas of the state.

02:40Hobart is heading for a mostly cloudy top of 21 degrees tomorrow.

02:45South Australia is looking at hot, sunny conditions continuing across inland parts of the state,

02:50low to severe intensity heatwaves through the west.

02:53We will see a little bit of cloud around the southern coastlines,

02:56with the very slight chance of a few showers about the southeast coast tomorrow morning.

03:01For Adelaide, though, it will be a dry day, mostly sunny with a top of 28 degrees.

03:06Western Australia will see the severe to locally extreme heatwaves ongoing

03:11across central and southern parts of the state.

03:14Now the west coast is going to slip back into low intensity heatwaves for the most part.

03:19You can see the temperature in Perth has come down to 33 degrees for tomorrow.

03:23But those severe to extreme heatwaves continue further inland,

03:27those extreme heatwaves impacting parts of the southern interior and northern goldfields.

03:32We're also going to see the continued risk of thunderstorms pushing down the west coast,

03:36once again with the risk of dry lightning tomorrow.

03:40For the Northern Territory, showers and thunderstorms continuing across those northern parts of the Territory,

03:45spilling into the Kimberley in Western Australia as well.

03:48We could see some gusty winds about parts of the Gregory and Carpentaria districts.

03:53We are looking at a muggy top of 33 degrees for Darwin tomorrow.

03:57It will be drier inland, however, with low to severe intensity heatwaves

04:01continuing across southern parts of the NT.
