00:00Former Prime Minister Najib Razak told the High Court that he confronted Low-Tech Joe, also known as Joe Low,

00:07after negative publicity began to surface about the businessman's lifestyle and ownership of luxury properties worldwide.

00:14In his 1MDB trial, Najib said he was not comfortable with news about Low's ostentatious lifestyle.

00:21He said Low responded by saying that he was doing it for Emirati Prince Sheikh Mansur Zayed Sultan Al Nahyan.

00:29Najib said he was introduced to Low by his stepson Riza Aziz, who were classmates.

00:34However, he denied that he became beholden to Low, adding that he was using Low for his close ties with Middle Eastern royal family.

00:42Separately, Najib denied receiving any SMS from ex-1MDB chairman Baqeh Saleh about the company's state of affairs.

00:50Baqeh previously told the court that he had informed Najib via text

00:54that 1MDB's management was going against instructions from the company's board of directors.

01:00Najib is standing trial on 25 charges of abuse of power and money laundering

01:05over funds amounting to RM2.28 billion deposited in his AmBank accounts.
