Tropical depression spotted outside PAR; cyclone trough, shear line, 'amihan' to bring rains

00:00Good morning to all of you and live from the Pag-asa Weather Forecasting Center.

00:05The time is now Sunday, December 22, 2024.

00:11And in our latest satellite images, we can see that we are being watched by a tropical depression

00:18that is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

00:22This is the last sighting of a tropical depression 620 kilometers away

00:27in the southern part of Pag-asa Island in Calayaan, here in the Palawan area.

00:33The possibility that the Philippine Area of Responsibility may enter the area today is still there.

00:39This is the typhoon that we are monitoring.

00:42And it is also possible that we will have a tropical cyclone wind signal,

00:45particularly in the area of Calayaan Islands.

00:49And if we have a tropical cyclone wind signal in the area of Calayaan Islands in Palawan,

00:58we will name this typhoon as Typhoon Rumina.

01:02This is the 18th typhoon in our country, in the area of Pag-asa Island this year, 2024.

01:10Meanwhile, there is still a continuous wave of shear lines,

01:13particularly here in the eastern part of Southern Luzon and Kabisayaan.

01:18And also in the northeastern part of Amihan, particularly in the northern part of Luzon.

01:24And today, there is still a high chance of rain in a large part of Kabisayaan, Bicol Region,

01:30as well as in Mimaropa.

01:32This is the tip of the shear line.

01:35While the sky is cloudy, there is a slight chance of rain in a large part of Luzon,

01:41particularly in Cordillera, Cagayan Valley Region, Central Luzon, and Metro Manila.

01:48And some parts of Calabarzon will experience cloudy skies with rain.

01:53The trough or extension of the typhoon that is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility

01:58will bring cloudy skies with rain,

02:02particularly in parts of Buanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

02:09Generally, we are still in fair weather while there is a possibility of isolated rain

02:16and there is also a chance of thunderstorms and landslides.

02:19Aside from the typhoon that is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility,

02:23we are not monitoring any low-pressure areas at the moment.

02:27And this is what we expect the weather will be like here in Luzon.

02:30We will see a high chance of rain.

02:33For our countrymen, especially those who will be returning to the province,

02:36we expect that in parts of Bicol Region, Calabarzon, and a large part of Mimaropa,

02:42there will be cloudy skies with rain along the shoreline

02:45while cloudy skies with a slight chance of rain will be experienced in parts of Cagayan Valley Region,

02:51Cordillera, Central Luzon, and Metro Manila along the Northeast Monsoon or Hanging Amihan.

02:57Here in Ilocos Region, we are generally in fair weather

03:00while there is a possibility of isolated light rains.

03:04In Lawag, the temperature will be around 22-31°C.

03:09In Togegaraw, the temperature will be around 22-28°C.

03:12In Baguio, the temperature will be around 16-24°C.

03:14In Manila, the temperature will be around 24-29°C.

03:17In Tagaytay, the temperature will be around 21-27°C.

03:20While in Legazpi, the temperature will be around 25-29°C.

03:25Here in Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan,

03:29the trough or extension of the tropical depression outside of Par will be affected

03:35and there will be cloudy skies with rain along the Palawan region.

03:39A large portion of Visayas will also experience cloudy skies with a slight chance of rain along the shoreline.

03:47In Calayan Islands, the temperature will be around 26-30°C.

03:51In Puerto Princesa, the temperature will be around 26-31°C.

03:55In Iloilo, the temperature will be around 24-30°C.

03:58While in Cebu, the temperature will be around 25-30°C.

04:01In Tacloban, the temperature will be around 24-30°C.

04:04The trough or extension of the tropical depression outside of Par

04:09will bring cloudy skies with rain along Zamboanga Peninsula,

04:15Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

04:17A large portion of Mindanao will experience generally fair weather

04:21with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

04:27In Zamboanga City, the temperature will be around 24-32°C.

04:32In Davao, the temperature will be around 25-31°C.

04:35While in Cagayan de Oro, the temperature will be around 24-31°C.

04:39Tomorrow, we still expect rain in a large portion of the Bicol region

04:44including Quezon Province and a large portion of Mimaropa.

04:48In particular, in the Bicol region, it is possible that it will still rain.

04:55That is why there is a high chance of sudden floods or flash floods.

04:59The same goes for landslides.

05:02On December 24, Tuesday, we still expect a high chance of rain

05:08in a large portion of the Bicol region

05:10including Northern Samar and a large portion of Mimaropa.

05:14It is also possible that it will reach Isabela and Aurora,

05:17which are the tip of the Shire Line and the Northeast Monsoon.

05:21That is why we are asking our countrymen to be careful

05:23in the areas where we expect a high chance of rain

05:27on Tuesday, Monday, and Tuesday.

05:32We have also raised the Gale Warning,

05:36particularly in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte,

05:40Ilocos Sur, and Kalayaan Island.

05:44It is still dangerous for small sea vehicles and small boats

05:49to sail here in the mentioned areas

05:52because the sea will be unstable.
