00:08playoff. We joked in the immediate aftermath that maybe it wasn't so much of a joke. Could

00:13Ohio State still as a national championship frontrunner solidified their bid to a college

00:18football playoff play in the CFP with an interim head coach? That is not going to be the case.

00:24The athletic director in Columbus, Ross Bjork, has instilled his confidence in Ryan Day.

00:29Not just for a college football playoff run, but for now, 2025 and beyond. Let's look at

00:36Ryan Day, Lacey Guy, and where things are in Columbus. Six full seasons at the helm.

00:41A 66-10 record. That is the second best FBS head coach winning percentage in the sport

00:48right now among active head coaches, only behind Dan Lanning. But against the best of

00:53the best. That is where you question Ryan Day, and certainly in the game against Michigan.

01:00Ryan Day is the head coach of Ohio State throughout the college football playoff. Can they find

01:05success, Lacey Guy, in trying to get rid of the bad taste from the game by contending

01:10for a national title?

01:11I think it's possible. On paper, they have the roster to compete. I think it's going

01:15to be a very difficult matchup. But just looking at the coaching perspective, Ryan Day has

01:20played in four college football playoffs, has played in terms of a national championship.

01:25I think the best coaching job that he actually did was the game that they lost in terms of

01:29New Year's Day to Georgia. You know, with C.J. Stroud, in terms of, hang on, not done.

01:34What I mean just from a game plan perspective early on, what I'm saying is, not in the last

01:40minute and a half where he obviously opted for the field goal. But that to me, from a

01:45game plan perspective, they challenged Georgia over the top with C.J. Stroud. That was

01:50from a game plan perspective, in my opinion, his best matchup. He didn't win it. But again,

01:55we'll see. I like Josh Heupel. So if we're looking at this matchup, Ryan Day, Josh Heupel,

02:02I'll take the gunslinger. I'll take the house money. I think Josh Heupel can maybe dial

02:06up some things to confuse that staff.

02:08Here's where I think it's interesting. We talk about who the bracket broke well for

02:13and did not. For Ryan Day specifically, right? All right, so if he loses the first game,

02:19he couldn't survive that, right? OK, cool. If he gets to the Oregon game, I am not sure

02:25fans will be comfortable with like he can't go out. We lost to the number one team in

02:29the country. It's like, no, you always lose to the number one team in the country. Plus,

02:33they're in the Big Ten. Yeah, I don't love that. OK, boom. So maybe he beats Oregon.

02:36You might go, OK, that's job secure. Is it because now if you get that far and you're

02:41in the semifinal and you lose that game, how did you not close the deal? Yeah. OK, boom.

02:46He gets to the national championship game. I still feel as if if he gets to that game

02:52and falls short, they'll go. He can't cross the finish line. I just don't know if there

02:56is the way the path broke. Yeah, I don't think he has an out really. That's how I feel. At

03:03least I could be off base. Yeah, no, listen, I would agree. So I think they would move

03:07the goalpost for what that level of success would be. The Buckeyes right now tied for

03:11the third best price to win the national championship at five to one. And I still think if you were

03:16to ask a lot of fans around Seabus, what would you rather have a national championship,

03:21a game appearance in the national title or just beat Michigan? Finally, they would say

03:26beat the team up north 10 times out of 10.
