00:12Today I want to reflect on a reality that we live every day,

00:16the transformation of communication in the era of smartphones.

00:20This small device, which began as a means of hearing the other's voice regardless of the distance,

00:26has become something much more complex and, paradoxically, something that often distances us from those who are close.

00:34Today, phones not only connect us, but they also distract us.

00:39They have gone from being a direct channel for speaking to being tools of text, images, videos and emojis,

00:46creating a kind of new language that does not always say everything we feel or think.

00:51It is as if we have exchanged the richness of an oral conversation for short and fragmented messages.

00:58Don't you find it curious that although we have more ways to communicate, we talk less?

01:04Before, a phone call was the bridge to hear laughter, emotion or comfort in someone's voice.

01:10Now a written ha-ha or a smiley face emoji is meant to replace that experience.

01:15Is it the same? Even worse.

01:18Veamos cómo, en una reunión de amigos o familiares, la gente es más enfocada en sus pantallas que en un diálogo face-to-face.

01:34Es esencial pensar sobre el poder de la conversación oral, que ha cambiado el mundo desde la época de Socrates.

01:41Hablar remaina una de las maneras más genuinas de compartir ideas y emociones.
