As Malaysia transitions to a green economy under the National Energy Transition Roadmap,
00:07
more well-paying jobs are expected, especially in the renewable energy sector.
00:12
To support this transition, the government raised the National Energy Transition Facilitation Fund's
00:17
allocation to RM300 million under the 2025 budget, up from RM200 million the previous year.
00:24
According to economist Lee Heng Gui, this will not only create job opportunities in the renewable
00:29
energy sector, but also in traditional industries like manufacturing, as well as emerging areas
00:35
such as electric vehicles. Lee, who is from Socioeconomic Research Centre Malaysia,
00:40
said this was because green energy transition was a whole of economy development,
00:45
creating opportunities across various industries.
00:49
The NETR aims to phase out fossil fuels and boost renewable energy to 70% by 2050.
00:55
It is also projected to generate over 84,000 jobs in the short term and 300,000 by 2050,
01:02
while attracting RM60.7 billion in foreign investments.
01:06
Previously, Human Resources Minister Stephen Sim said jobs in the green sector are expected
01:10
to fetch higher wages, with salaries ranging from RM3,000 to RM16,000 monthly.
01:16
However, Malaysians will need to acquire new skills to take advantage of these opportunities.
01:22
Lee said this ranged from engineering to management,
01:24
as well as soft skills like adaptability and creativity.
01:28
He also said there was a need for better coordination among stakeholders such as the
01:33
government, academia and industries to ensure the right skills are developed for green jobs.
