I'm Charlotte Farrington and I am the founder of Yorkshire Children's Charity.

We've had a really busy couple of weeks here in the warehouse as part of our
00:07
winter essentials campaign. We've seen a significant increase in terms of demand
00:11
this year. We are working with 160 schools across Yorkshire, 33 of those
00:15
schools are in Leeds. We've increased on 50% from last year in terms of the
00:21
number of applications that we've had. We really wanted to make sure that we were
00:25
only supplying gifts and clothing to those children that without intervention
00:31
from Yorkshire Children's Charity would a. receive absolutely nothing on
00:35
Christmas morning and b. would be very cold this winter. We're supporting 372
00:40
children across Leeds with winter support and within the winter support
00:45
we've got coats and gloves and scarves, pyjamas, anything basically that is
00:52
essential to keep children warm. As part of that we're doing a gift campaign as
00:58
well for these children so we'll be sending out its 6,000 gifts to 2,000
01:03
children across Yorkshire. Last year when we received it the children couldn't stop
01:08
talking about it in January because they had something, they were warm and you
01:14
know they felt cared for and they had that sense of belonging and that's
01:17
something that we strongly believe here at Woodlands and we do everything that
01:22
we can to make these children feel safe and make them feel as they belong
01:27
because what we're aiming to do is provide better futures for them you know
01:32
to break that cycle of deprivation. The reaction from schools and from families
01:39
is the reason why we do our job. Last year off the back of this exact same
01:44
campaign we saw almost a 30% increase in school attendance purely because
01:49
children had shoes on their feet and a warm coat and that's the whole purpose
01:54
of what this campaign is. It's about children arriving at school warm, dry and
01:59
ready to learn.
