The Yorkshire Sculpture Park is a hidden gem within Yorkshire and it's just off the motorway,
00:06
only half an hour from Leeds, and it's a fantastic landscape and sculpture park. It's something
00:12
quite unique and it's one of the largest sculpture parks in Europe and we're very honoured to
00:16
have this in Yorkshire. So there's a huge parkland of over 500 acres which is probably
00:21
difficult to comprehend but for those that know it's 125 cricket pitches in size, has
00:28
historic landscape from the 18th century and in it over 90 different sculptures. It is
00:33
an accredited museum and a charity but unlike other museums you might visit, as the name
00:39
suggests, this is a big parkland so lots of our sculpture that's on display is outdoors.
00:46
We do have indoor spaces and we're in one of them now, this is our chapel and we're
00:50
surrounded here by work by Leila Babiri. It's got Barbara Hepworth, Henry Mors, Damon Hirst
00:57
and behind me some brand new artists, Daniel Arsham. So it's a fantastic kind of day out,
01:03
it's a full day out, there's lots and lots to do. There's lots to do for kids as well,
01:07
we've just introduced something called Little Wild Wood which is a creative space for little
01:11
ones to run around, to engage with nature and art. We've got three indoor galleries
01:18
for when it occasionally does rain here in Yorkshire and we also have two to three cafes
01:24
and restaurants depending on what day you come. It is this extraordinary historic landscape
01:29
but things are always changing here. We have the changing seasons and you might encounter
01:35
sheep and lambs at the moment in the parkland alongside the sculpture but the trees are
01:41
extraordinary here, you know, you see flowers, you encounter nature and then amongst that
01:45
you find really internationally renowned artists. This is a place where you can come for a great
01:51
day out, you could spend the entire day here because there is so much to explore. You pay
01:57
nothing for parking here, children are free, there's one ticket price and because we're
02:02
a charity you can be assured everything that you're going to pay goes back and is invested
02:07
into this place and what happens here. We also have introduced a new spring/summer pass
02:13
so if you want to come back again during the spring and summer months we've made it really
02:18
effective to do so. We won the Yorkshire Post Tourist Award last year, it was an amazing
02:24
achievement, not clearly for the whole team in terms of what they achieve and what they
02:28
offer here. We really feel this is an excellent value for money day out for the whole family
02:33
or for couples or even for individuals to come along and spend some time with nature
02:38
and with art in the landscape. It is that meeting of art, people and landscape here
02:43
I think which is really at the core of what a visit to Yorkshire Sculpture Park is about
02:48
and something that you can't really get in many other places so coming here to experience
02:53
that is really quite unique I think and just a joyous thing to do.
