We visit St Michaels C of E School in Tettenhall to find out about the work they do, including there amazing Ark facility looking after pupils with special educational needs.

00:00Hi, I'm Isabel Parkin for The Express and Star. We're here today at St Michael's Church of England Primary School in Technal

00:06and I'm here with Kate Jackson, the headteacher, who's going to tell us a little bit about what makes this school special.

00:12Hello, I'm Kate. I'm the headteacher here at St Michael's, as you say, and The Arc, and it's an amazing place.

00:18We're a very inclusive school.

00:19We have the privilege of having a special needs unit for children with social, emotional, mental health needs

00:26and we're delighted that we've recently been recognised as being outstanding, again, in all four key inspection areas.

00:33So we've got an excellent science and we've got an outstanding

00:37Ofsted report as well.

00:38But at the centre of everything we do are our children and we strive just to do the best for them in lots and lots of

00:44different ways. So we have a very broad and balanced curriculum that offers children things just beyond the normal as well

00:51and I'm hoping that today you'll see some of that.

00:55OK, so The Arc is a really special place.

01:01It's a unit for children who have a primary need of social, emotional, mental health and who come from any school in Wolverhampton

01:08and beyond and all the children have an EHCP and they come here, they're full time in school and they enjoy a curriculum,

01:16a broad and balanced curriculum that was centred on regulation and helps them to overcome previous traumas.

01:24We've got 12 children currently, we are able to take 16 and we're excited to see the amazing development that they've,

01:32the progress they're making as they join us here at The Arc.

01:54So this is our hub and this is where some of our young people who are working significantly below their age related,

02:02their curriculum for their age come and have some additional support from experienced and qualified teachers and TAs

02:10that work in here with them.

03:02So this display is our art in the wood display and in the summer of the last academic year we invited parents in to join us

03:10to make a piece of artwork that we could then put out in our surroundings outside and then we invited parents in to come and see our exhibition

03:20and to join us for a picnic afterwards.
