Heatwave warning for parts of Queensland

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for the Southern and Western interior of the state, with the heat likely to move east to the coast, later in the week.

00:00As temperatures soar into the 40s, a dip in the creek is sweet relief.

00:08Hot, dusty, windy.

00:10The conditions prompted the Weather Bureau to issue a severe heatwave warning

00:14for much of the far west and southern interior.

00:17Parts of the south west and particularly across inland southern Queensland

00:21may be as much as 10 or even 11 degrees above average.

00:24Heat isn't unusual for the outback, but it's an early taste of what's to come

00:28just weeks out from the start of summer.

00:31What heatwave? This is normal for this time of the year.

00:35I've lived here for 25 years.

00:37Bloody hot and going to get hotter.

00:40Work on the land can't stop and the gusty winds point to an extreme fire danger.

00:45Everyone sort of expects it to get hot now this time of the year anyway

00:49so I think everyone's pretty prepared for it.

00:52Cattle is still being mustered during 45 degree heat in Birdsville.

00:56I've got a neck scarf on today and we've got these things called bush mitts.

01:04Because the sun is so harsh out here you don't realise

01:07and you can come home from a day of work and just be absolutely cooked.

01:12The heat is expected to peak in the west midweek before moving east towards the coast.

01:17For some areas it's likely to be the hottest November since 2020.

01:22We don't mind the heat out here at all.

01:24As long as you can stay out of the sun.
