00:00Good morning and welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. Another grey and

00:04cloudy start for much of the UK. A few mist and fog patches, particularly across the south.

00:08That's thanks to this area of high pressure giving quite benign conditions across the

00:12south. But this low moving eastwinds further north gives a squeeze on those isobars. So

00:17the northern half of the country seeing particularly strong winds and pretty gusty through Thursday

00:21and into the start of Friday. Back to this morning though, so plenty of cloud around,

00:26particularly across southern half of the UK. There will be a few clear spells and some

00:29mist and fog patches, but generally pretty calm conditions across the southern half of

00:33the UK. Light winds further north across the Pennines. The winds start to increase from

00:38the west and pretty gusty over high ground as well. Northern Ireland starting to see

00:42some drizzle moving in and the northwest of Scotland seeing a fairly damp day as well.

00:47Winds particularly strong here, especially on the coast, where there could be some gales

00:50at times through the late half of Thursday. Through the day, though, we've got temperatures

00:56fairly mild for the time of year, 13 to 16 degrees. Best of the temperature will be down

01:00towards the southern half of the UK in some of those brightest spells. Now heading through

01:04this evening is Halloween, so some of you may be out trick or treating. So what will

01:08it be like for you? Western Scotland, unfortunately, quite grey and quite wet with those blustery

01:14winds further south. Some drizzle for the western half of Northern Ireland. Still quite

01:18breezy here. Lots of cloud around, but drier for parts of northern England, Wales and the

01:23southern half of England. Plenty of dry conditions around and fairly light winds through the

01:28rest of the evening. And those light winds continue across the south and more mist and

01:31fog patches may form in those clearer spells. But staying fairly cloudy across much of the

01:36rest of the UK with this cold front sinking south into the northern half of Scotland into

01:41the early hours of Friday. So with this cold front is going to be introducing some cooler

01:45air. So notice that across parts of Shetland, temperatures down into single figures and

01:50be feeling noticeably cooler. Some of those showers could turn a touch wintry later in

01:54the day underneath the cloud and with the wind temperatures remaining mild across much

01:58of Scotland. And there will be a few pockets of cooler temperatures further south. These

02:02are largely addictive of towns and cities, but in some clearer spells you could get down

02:07into four or five degrees in southern parts as well. So heading through Friday, still

02:13a fairly largely cloudy and calm day across much of the UK. But this cold front will steadily

02:18sink south as we head through Friday. Those winds steadily turning northerly and we may

02:22get some wintry showers, particularly over parts of Shetland. That rain band begins to

02:27weaken as it sinks southwards and we do start to see some drizzly rain moving into parts

02:32of north east England later on as well. Temperatures to the north. This rain band, there will be

02:36some brighter spells here, but temperatures will be much cooler. So nine or ten degrees

02:40for the northern half of Scotland. Mild air continuing to hold on to the southern half

02:44of that frontal system, but temperatures a touchdown on the previous day. So at best,

02:4914 or 15 across the southern half of England. So heading through the rest of Friday, that

02:55area of rain will slowly sink south, but high pressure is likely to stay in force for the
