00:00
We always love pay three Fridays because we get the legendary coach Terry Bowden on coast
00:08
to coast.
00:09
You can catch his podcast the Bowden Blitz as well on SportsGrid.
00:14
And every Friday right here, second hour, we do all the plays that matter Friday and
00:19
Saturday in college football.
00:20
Coach, good to see you down in Monroe, Louisiana.
00:24
Let's start with the game tonight in Vegas with Boise ranked against UNLV, a really good
00:33
game at Allegiant and Sin City.
00:36
You think they can handle their business on the road against the Rebels?
00:39
They've been through so much, allegedly, you know, their quarterback quit on them, but
00:43
they still play tough.
00:45
I like Odom.
00:46
I like the job he's done with that team.
00:47
That's going to be a wild football game, isn't it?
00:50
These are the top, they're both in the top five in scoring.
00:52
They both know how to put points on the board.
00:55
Hard to go against Ashton Gentry, though, the team Boise State, as well as he's playing.
01:00
He is just impossible to stop.
01:02
And that's kind of rule one, two and three.
01:05
They've got to stop him, but nobody has stopped him.
01:08
So my thoughts are they're going to have to outscore him.
01:10
It's going to be a high scoring game because they'll be trying to keep up with and they
01:13
have the ability to because they have such a good offense.
01:16
They have the ability to score points and they're going to have to keep scoring because
01:18
you can't stop Ashton Gentry.
01:20
Now, listen, let's just get real here.
01:23
At late night on Fox, they got Rutgers and USC in LA and USC is laying two touchdowns.
01:31
I'm not sure they can score two touchdowns.
01:34
I mean, both these teams, this is bad.
01:36
Both these teams have lost their last three.
01:38
Huge disappointment, especially in Los Angeles for Southern Cal.
01:42
I just don't know if you can make this a high point game.
01:45
And I have a tendency to take Rutgers, but when I, you know, I'm just old enough to never
01:50
take Rutgers over USC, but I'm thinking that's the way you got to go, you know, but that's
01:54
that's how that's like Miami being 21 on FSU and we're not even going there yet.
01:59
Yeah, we haven't gone there yet, but we will.
02:03
I got to tell you, all right, so let's go to tomorrow, Indiana put 56 on Nebraska in
02:11
Bloomington and now the Huskers have to play at the shoe in Columbus against Ohio State
02:17
and Ohio State's on the penthouse floor.
02:21
Indiana's on like the 10th floor of that skyscraper.
02:24
Yeah, Nebraska, this is not one of those if it's just a how much game.
02:28
I mean, that's all it's going to be.
02:29
You're talking about Nebraska in Ohio State, then Ohio State having a week off to play
02:34
in this game.
02:35
They got, and they were upset.
02:36
They got there and they're not feeling too good because they lost their game to Oregon.
02:40
And so they've been thinking and thinking about this game.
02:42
So this is one of those where Nebraska that doesn't have enough talent, Ohio State, I
02:46
don't care if they lost by one point or two points to Oregon.
02:49
They're still the most talented team in the country when it comes to NFL players, and
02:53
they'll get back on track and they'll take it out of Nebraska.
02:57
Yeah, I think so without a doubt.
02:59
And they're going to be a playoff team come hell or high water.
03:03
I could even see Ohio State meet in Oregon again for a national championship.
03:09
Oh, absolutely.
03:10
I think Ohio State to me, and I'm going to go that route with Texas too, who lost a game
03:14
to Georgia.
03:16
These three teams or four teams have the most talent in the country, Oregon, Ohio State,
03:20
Georgia, Texas.
03:21
Even if they lose a game, they're still in the national conference, I mean the football
03:26
championship series.
03:27
And so they've got plenty of chance to make up for that loss.
03:30
All right, let's talk about Notre Dame and Navy and East Rutherford right across the
03:35
river here through the tunnel from Manhattan.
03:38
You go down the hill and there you are at the Snoopy for this one, Notre Dame and Navy.
03:44
Navy's unbeaten and they're getting 13 and a hook.
03:48
Some places, two tights.
03:50
Can the Irish handle Navy tomorrow or will Navy shock the world?
03:56
Well, you know, and after we saw Vandy beat Alabama and Vandy's kind of run this same
04:01
type of, not just a triple option or a wing team, they put the spread passing attack with
04:06
it and Navy's doing it about as good as anybody in the academies.
04:09
And it gives you a fist.
04:11
Just go back and look at some of their films as I did this week.
04:13
But Notre Dame's got more talent than anybody they've played at Navy.
04:17
I don't think Navy's played all G5 teams so far.
04:20
Go look at that Memphis game and see how they handle Memphis.
04:23
They're an incredible team.
04:24
They've got a system that uses smart, I call it smart football.
04:27
They're usually at an academy or a Vanderbilt and they play a system where you can't go
04:31
out there and physically handle them.
04:32
You got to find a way mentally to go in the right direction because everything is misdirection.
04:37
And let me say this about Navy.
04:39
They have a quarterback and a running back, Horvath in Texas.
04:41
These guys are unbelievable.
04:43
You know why?
04:43
They went to Mount Lebanon High School together.
04:46
That's a lot of great people come out of Mount Lebanon High School.
04:49
Including me!
04:50
That's where I went to high school.
04:51
Oh, Scotty.
04:52
Oh, you've been setting me up.
04:57
They're one year old.
04:58
They're the best people on the team.
04:59
And they've been best friends since they were like first grade.
05:02
And they both went to Mount Lebanon.
05:04
When I was there, they won the WIPEO four straight years.
05:08
They won the state championship four straight years.
05:10
And I always was like, they played on AstroTurf in Mount Lebanon.
05:15
And I was like, man, this school, that high school was enormous that I went to.
05:19
It really was.
05:20
Yes, it was.
05:21
Illinois getting over three tighties, 21 and a hook at Alton.
05:26
I love this quarterback for Illinois.
05:29
I think Beal must have done a great job.
05:31
Can they hang with the Ducks and Eugene?
05:33
I've got them.
05:34
I've got them beating the numbers.
05:37
Oregon's not going to lose to Illinois at Alton Stadium.
05:40
They're not going to lose the game.
05:41
But Illinois is a physically tough team.
05:43
They represent, that coach kind of builds on that, their toughness.
05:47
But they're not quite good enough to beat this team in Oregon.
05:50
But I've got them definitely taking the numbers and taking the points.
05:55
Yeah, me too.
05:57
Missouri's at College Station at Kyle Field under the lights.
06:01
Is Cook not playing for Missouri in that game?
06:04
Am I seeing things?
06:05
Yeah, Cook and Noel both are doubtful.
06:08
In college terms, that usually means they ain't playing.
06:11
They just want to try to create just a little bit of a doubt.
06:14
But I don't think they're both going to play.
06:16
And if they can't play, I give Alabama the game and the points on that one.
06:23
Yeah, I was tripping.
06:23
That's the game at Tuscaloosa that Missouri's playing.
06:27
LSU's got A&M at Kyle Field under the lights.
06:32
I'm sorry.
06:32
So who do you like in that one?
06:34
Well, this one, you got the two teams.
06:36
These two teams sit on top of the SEC with one loss by themselves.
06:39
And the winner of this game will be the sole leader in the SEC.
06:43
Who would have thought that?
06:44
But they both have great offense, great defense.
06:47
The running games are going to negate each other.
06:49
And it's going to come back to the quarterbacks.
06:51
And I've got to go over, Connor.
06:52
You've got to go with Nussmeier when it comes down to who can throw it.
06:55
Because they're both going to be able to stop that run pretty good.
06:58
Yeah, everybody I've been seeing is on LSU in this game,
07:01
including heavy batters.
07:03
All the sharps are on them because of Nussmeier.
07:06
And they don't like that quarterback for A&M.
07:10
They just don't like their Kimmy.
07:12
Texas is at Vandy.
07:14
How do you think the Longhorns respond after getting their ass beat by Georgia?
07:19
Well, this is kind of like the other game with Navy and Notre Dame.
07:22
It's athleticism versus scheme.
07:24
And Texas, I guarantee it, they will use that athleticism.
07:28
And they'll keep Vandy from doing what they did against, what,
07:31
Virginia Tech and Alabama.
07:33
Again, they've got too much.
07:34
When you've got that much talent, you can make mistakes in time and still recover.
07:38
But they'll get so much penetration.
07:40
They'll get Vandy in the backfield.
07:42
So Alabama is going to recover.
07:44
And I'll be honest with you.
07:44
I think Alabama is going to cover the score, too.
07:47
How about these two at night?
07:48
7 o'clock, Miami hosting Florida State.
07:51
They hate each other's guts.
07:53
Miami's laying 21.
07:55
You know I'm a huge Canes fan.
07:56
Will they handle them?
07:58
Yeah, I think they will.
07:59
I mean, I'm an FSU fan because of my dad that's over the years there.
08:02
21 points, I've never seen.
08:04
And it's played down in Miami.
08:06
Not Coral Gables, not the Orange Bowl like we used to love.
08:08
But it's down there at their home field.
08:10
But FSU has no quarterback.
08:12
And when you have no quarterback, you have no answers.
08:15
They threw three picks for scores in the last three interceptions on three straight plays
08:19
last week.
08:20
And they have no quarterback.
08:21
And they have nowhere to go.
08:22
And Miami's got to make sure recruits in Florida know who's the best team.
08:26
Yeah, it killed me when they tore the Orange Bowl down.
08:30
What a disaster that was.
08:32
Let's talk about Penn State at MADTOWN at Camp Randall.
08:37
They're laying six and a half.
08:38
Fickles, Badgers have won three in a row.
08:40
And they've raked everybody.
08:42
I got 10 seconds.
08:43
What do you like in that game?
08:45
Stay with Penn State.
08:46
Wisconsin's now standing team.
08:47
Stay with Penn State on that.
08:49
All right, coach.
08:49
I love you.
08:50
Have a great weekend.
