You can catch the Bowden Blitz podcast on SportsGrid every week, and you can catch Coach
00:08
Terry Bowden on Coast to Coast every Friday.
00:11
Thank God for that.
00:12
Coach, good to see you as always.
00:15
Tonight, Oregon goes to Ross-Ade in West Lafayette, and Purdue gave Illinois all they could handle
00:21
in Champaign-Urbana in an overtime game.
00:24
I couldn't believe it after the way Purdue had been getting their ass kicked in every
00:29
game.
00:30
I mean, teams were just slicing them apart, but they looked good against the ranked Illini.
00:35
Can they catch Oregon coming off the Ohio State game sleeping at all, because they're
00:41
laying 29 and a hook?
00:43
I tell you, I've got an urge to take those points.
00:47
I know Oregon's going to beat them, but they've got a lot of things.
00:50
They come off a huge game.
00:51
They were mentally into Ohio State for a lot of weeks, and now they're coming to a team
00:56
that they can't show hardly any good film except that last one.
01:00
Oregon's going to win the game, but I tell you, I have a hard time going against that
01:03
number for Purdue.
01:06
Tonight in Provo, this tough BYU team that's undefeated and ranked 13th.
01:12
They're laying nine to Oklahoma State, and the Cowboys have struggled of late.
01:18
We just saw what BYU did to Arizona at home in Provo.
01:23
They put 41 on them.
01:24
What do you think they do tonight against Gundy's Pokes?
01:29
Yeah, I think Gundy's Pokes are having trouble.
01:32
They can't run the ball like they're used to doing.
01:34
They can't find which quarterback they want to use.
01:38
And Coach Gundy keeps saying, we're going to get it straightened out, and they haven't
01:42
been able to get it straightened out.
01:43
BYU was picked 13th at the conference preseason, and now they're 13th in the top 25.
01:49
They're on a roll.
01:50
They've gotten more confidence every week.
01:52
They're expecting snow possibly tonight in BYU.
01:55
I'm picking BYU all the way to cover.
01:57
So tomorrow night in primetime at 7.30, Georgia and Texas at Memorial in Austin.
02:03
Quite a weekend in Austin, Texas.
02:06
They got a Formula One race.
02:07
They got this big Georgia-Texas game.
02:10
Texas has owned Georgia.
02:12
They beat them four out of five meetings.
02:14
No one's ever done that to Georgia before like Texas has.
02:19
Texas laying four and a half here, Coach.
02:22
Well, you know, again, I don't know how far back that goes, but in the Kirby Smart era,
02:27
I sure like the way Georgia's been playing since he's been the head coach.
02:30
And, you know, I don't know if I can go with on this one.
02:33
I've got thinking Georgia's going to show up to this game.
02:36
They're going to put it together.
02:38
I think the athletes, the number one team is clearly Texas.
02:41
But I got this feeling.
02:42
I don't know if Georgia, they'll win by a field goal, but I don't know three and a half.
02:44
But I have this feeling Kirby Smart's going to get that team.
02:47
He's been in postseason play.
02:49
He knows what the stakes are.
02:51
Huge game for Georgia if they were to lose another game.
02:54
I'm going with Georgia, and I'm going with Georgia to win the football game.
02:57
Whoa, look at Coach digging Georgia.
03:00
Sweet.
03:01
Alabama and Tennessee and Knoxville at 330 on ABC.
03:06
They haven't slain three, and they have owned the Vols through the years.
03:11
Well, they're going to own them again if the Vols don't know who they are
03:13
or what they're doing.
03:15
Josh Hypo got that job by throwing the ball vertically down the field
03:18
and throwing the bubble screens on the outside, which opened up the running game.
03:22
He now tries to run the football without the passing game
03:25
to get people backing off, and he's getting killed.
03:27
Thank goodness he has a great defense, but that's not the style he wants to play.
03:31
So I think Alabama, when things like this, Alabama's defense has struggled
03:35
to be sharp every week.
03:36
Tennessee doesn't have a strong offense right now.
03:39
When I see that, I go, who's got the best quarterback,
03:42
the most experienced quarterback, the veteran quarterback,
03:45
and that's Milrow and Alabama.
03:47
I'm with you there, Coach.
03:49
A good one tomorrow in Bloomington at Memorial Stadium at Indiana
03:53
as the Hoosiers, undefeated, ranked 16th, 6-0 for Kurt Cignetti.
03:59
He's been incredible.
04:01
They're laying 6-1 to a 5-1 rule-led Nebraska Oscar team with Dylan Reola.
04:08
I think this is going to be a wild game.
04:09
It's on Fox.
04:10
It's their noon game.
04:13
Can you imagine before the year that we were going to see a 5-1 Nebraska
04:17
playing a 6-0 Indiana?
04:19
But let me tell you about Kurt Cignetti.
04:21
His dad, Frank Cignetti, was my dad's offensive coordinator at West Virginia,
04:26
and he was my head coach.
04:27
I grew up with Kurt.
04:28
Kurt was a quarterback.
04:29
He was a quarterback coach for Nick Saban in Alabama before he went
04:32
into his head coaching period.
04:33
I'm a big—they're brilliant on offense, and Kurt is brilliant.
04:37
He's won, I think, every game by 14 points or more, and he's going to keep it going
04:43
because he sees what's going on here, and he's not just a new coach.
04:46
He's been a veteran head coach for a long time, and like myself,
04:49
he's the son of an outstanding football coach.
04:51
His father was really a brilliant offensive line, Frank Cignetti Sr.,
04:55
and, of course, his brother, Frankie, is a coach in the NFL.
04:59
But I think Kurt Cignetti has got something special going on down in Indiana.
05:03
Man, they're lucky they got him because they have sucked forever in football.
05:07
They haven't been good since 1967.
05:09
Maybe once under Bill Mallory in 87, they were decent,
05:13
but they've never been anything more than decent.
05:15
It's a basketball school.
05:17
I went to school there.
05:18
Believe me, you, I was there for Bob Knight in basketball, not football,
05:22
and to see them 6-0, I almost fell over.
05:25
Illinois and Michigan—and I knew his dad, by the way,
05:29
was a great legendary coach, Frank Cignetti.
05:32
He coached till the guy was like 100.
05:35
Michigan and Illinois in Champaign-Urbana at 330.
05:38
Michigan laying three and a half.
05:40
They're 24th in the country.
05:42
Illinois is 22.
05:44
You know, Michigan's got so much uncertainty on the quarterback position.
05:48
They don't have much of an offense.
05:50
They play great defense, but Illinois can throw the ball now a little bit,
05:53
and I think Illinois has got the outstanding football coach,
05:56
and I just kind of lean toward Illinois here.
05:58
I just feel like the way they're playing and what they've got going,
06:01
they've got more answers that Michigan has,
06:04
and Michigan's got more questions than Illinois has.
06:07
How about my Canes?
06:09
Ranked sixth.
06:10
They pulled a couple of them out of their arse,
06:12
including the game at Berkeley, but I don't care what anyone says.
06:15
You're down 35-10.
06:16
You win 39-38.
06:18
That's badass.
06:19
They're laying five at a tough Louisville team noon tomorrow on ABC.
06:25
I think it's going to be a good game.
06:27
Oh, it will be a good game, and Louisville is probably the toughest team.
06:30
I think if they beat Louisville, which I believe they will,
06:32
and they have to come out ready to play,
06:34
they run the table till they get to the conference championship.
06:37
They have got to come out of the locker room ready to play.
06:40
They can't get themselves behind because the defense isn't playing sharp early.
06:44
Cam Ward, for all of his greatness, he comes out sometimes lethargic.
06:47
He makes a dumb decision early.
06:50
Maybe it's just to show everybody how good he can make it up,
06:52
but they have got to come out sharp because Louisville is good enough.
06:55
If they get ahead, they can continue to match points with them
06:58
and put them in trouble, but I am picking Miami
07:00
because I think they've learned something the last couple weeks.
07:02
They must come out of the locker room,
07:04
and we must see how they play that first quarter.
07:06
Virginia is 4-2.
07:08
They're going to Death Valley to take on Clemson.
07:12
In Clemson, they're 5-1.
07:14
They've been hot lately.
07:16
Clemson's laying 20.
07:18
It's at noon in the heat.
07:21
I will tell you something.
07:22
I was at Clemson as an analyst three years ago
07:24
when I was Tony Elliott's analyst,
07:26
and I know Dabo, who coached for my brother at Clemson.
07:29
I know Tony Elliott, and they are great friends,
07:32
and Dabo's kind of a mentor.
07:35
Virginia will be lucky to play in this game,
07:37
but you know what? I don't think Dabo will run it in.
07:39
I don't think he wants to add points on.
07:41
I think he'll lay off at the end
07:43
unless he's so far ahead at the beginning
07:45
to back up score too much,
07:46
so I've got Virginia to get the points,
07:49
but I think Clemson's going to beat them,
07:51
but I think there's a special relationship
07:53
between Dabo and Elliott.
07:55
I don't think he wants to. He won't rub it in.
07:56
If he has a chance, he won't rub it in.
07:58
Does Army and Navy both stay undefeated?
08:01
Army's playing East Carolina.
08:04
Navy's playing Charlotte.
08:05
Do they both stay undefeated?
08:07
Absolutely, and it would be a fantastic situation
08:10
if those guys could run the table,
08:12
and then the college football playoff's
08:13
got to make some big decisions,
08:15
because tell me how many people would love to see Army
08:17
or Navy in the college football playoff.
08:19
May not happen, but would love to see it.
08:22
So Notre Dame's going to the Benz in Atlanta
08:25
to take on Georgia Tech.
08:27
That game is not at Bobby Dodd.
08:28
They're playing it in the Falcon Stadium,
08:31
and Super Bowl in 2028 will be there, Super Bowl 62.
08:36
Georgia Tech will not have King their quarterback.
08:39
They're going with the veteran backup
08:41
that they have on the sideline.
08:43
Does that ruin their chances against the Irish?
08:45
It's Notre Dame laying 14.
08:47
Absolutely, absolutely.
08:48
Notre Dame knows what they've got to do.
08:50
The more they can distance themselves from Illinois,
08:53
which was just an outlier.
08:54
That's not the way they play.
08:56
The more they can distance from that game,
08:57
the more they know they are in the hunt
08:59
for a college football playoff,
09:00
and I think with Haynes King not playing,
09:03
I think Notre Dame's going to win
09:05
and Notre Dame's going to cover.
09:06
All right, coach.
09:07
Fabulous stuff.
09:08
Great football tonight and all day and all night on Saturday.
09:12
Enjoy the game.
09:13
It's always a pleasure.
