00:04It was the 37-year-old Hacinto who was also diagnosed with cataract.

00:10It was red and there was a stone inside.

00:14For a few days, my middle eye started to turn white.

00:22Hacinto used to farm in Apayao.

00:27In 2018, he left Manila and worked as a construction worker.

00:33I was surprised that at my young age, I had cataract.

00:40Many people say that it's a rare disease.

00:45In 2022, he noticed that his vision was getting blurry.

00:51My left eye was just turning white.

00:56It was blurry.

00:58There was nothing else.

01:00I could only see the light of my left eye, the one with cataract.

01:06Hacinto was diagnosed with cataract when he was working in construction.

01:11He didn't wear safety glasses.

01:14That's why his left eye was often hurting and bleeding.

01:19But after a while, his vision started to turn white.

01:27That's when I started to worry.

01:31Some of our patients have comorbid conditions

01:36like diabetes and other non-communicable diseases.

01:42Others have a history of trauma related to work

01:48which also contributes to other diseases of the eye other than cataract.

01:56Because of his difficult life, he decided to leave his vision to see a doctor.

02:01And he returned to Apayao during the pandemic.

02:05I was a bit nervous.

02:07But I also thought that I would lose my vision.

02:13I only had minor problems with my vision.

02:18In 2020, when he heard about the free cataract operation,

02:23he wasn't even late.

02:26I found out about the free cataract operation here at BHW.

02:34They gave me a schedule to check up if I have a problem with my vision.

02:40That's why the local government of Apayao

02:45gave a vision screening to The Fred Hollows Foundation

02:48with the presence of Janina and Jacinto.

02:52I really want to have a cataract operation now.

02:56So that I can see that I have a hard time with my work
