00:00 Welcome back to Pinoy MD and we will welcome again our dermatologist of the town, Dr. Jean Marquez.

00:07 Here she is, Doctor, with the questions that our viewers have sent in regarding their health.

00:16 And for our first question, she had second degree burns last New Year.

00:21 Our heart has asked the doctor to examine her, but after just one round, it became very dry.

00:28 Her question is, is it possible to return to her skin?

00:32 That question is from Bonnie Villarante.

00:35 Alright, those second degree burns are actually the ones in the dermal layer or the second layer of our skin.

00:43 It's a bit deeper because first it's epidermis, then dermis.

00:46 And it usually looks like it's blistering, it's watery.

00:50 When it's bleeding, it can leave some hyperpigmentation or blackness, or it can leave sometimes contractures or scars that are a bit hollow.

01:04 Or it can leave a hypertrophic scar or keloid when it's deeper.

01:09 So it actually depends on the depth of the burn and the severity of the burn.

01:16 We have to know what the scar looks like. If it's just black, we can still make it white.

01:21 But if it's contractures or if it's a hypertrophic scar, we can improve it, but it won't return to a normal skin.

01:33 So if it's just pigmentation or redness, it can be improved.

01:39 And now, there are a lot of lasers and treatments that can be done, a lot of injections that can be done to improve the appearance of scars.

01:49 And usually, it's a combination treatment.

01:51 It's combined with laser together with growth factors or PRP or exosomes.

01:59 Or sometimes, it's called microneedling when it's contractures or hypertrophic scars.

02:07 That's where the lasers enter.

02:09 For pigmentation, it can be with pimples, whiteners, and whitening lasers.

02:16 And for our second question, from April Jane Laguitao,

02:20 "What is the origin of the pigmentation that grows and returns? What can we do to cure it?"

02:28 Alright, if your pigmentation is recurrent, you need to know if there are other people in your household who also have pigmentation.

02:37 Because later, it might get better and you'll be able to touch it again.

02:41 So if it's returning, it could be because your immune system is down.

02:48 So if your immune system is down, it's not good to get infected with any other infection.

02:55 Third, it could also be because your medication is insufficient or you haven't been given the right medication.

03:02 Or if you've already been given antibiotics, you might have resistance to these medications.

03:12 It's not coming to you.

03:14 That's what's called MRSA or Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus.

03:20 Because usually, the cause of that pigmentation is a staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

03:25 And some of it, especially if it's recurrent, that's what's called a possible MRSA.

03:31 So MRSAs are resistant to a particular kind of antibiotic like Methicillin or what's called beta-lactams.

03:39 So you might need to go to a doctor to really examine and give you a different kind of antibiotic.

03:46 And of course, proper hygiene is also important.

03:50 Because you might share personal belongings like clothes, towels, etc.

03:58 So proper hygiene is also very important.

04:01 Here's the next question, Doctor.

04:04 What is the cause of dark spots on the lips or lips?

04:08 This is from Mohana Leigh Salvador Gaco.

04:11 Mohana, do you know about the dark spots on the lips?

04:13 Sometimes, it's genetic. Other people have darker lips.

04:18 And of course, it also depends on the race.

04:21 Sometimes, there are other races whose lips are darker.

04:26 Second, it could be also because of your cosmetic products.

04:30 Maybe you're using lipsticks that have drying properties like too much alcohol content or fragrance.

04:39 Or sometimes, you're reacting to the color or the dye of the lipstick.

04:44 Especially the so-called long-wearing lipsticks.

04:47 It dries the lips too much and it can later on cause darkening of the lips.

04:52 Another thing is that you might be taking medicines.

04:57 You know, the medicines that are given to acne medications like doxycycline and tetracycline.

05:03 This can actually make you more prone to photosensitivity or to the effects of the sun and it can darken your lips.

05:10 And of course, there are medical conditions that can actually darken the lips like iron deficiency anemia or diabetes.

05:19 Or you might be a smoker. That's what happens most often.

05:24 If you're a smoker, naturally, your lips will get pigmented because of the chemicals from the tobacco.

05:34 So, let's know what is causing it.

05:36 And how can we treat it?

05:38 Well, we can do it with pigmented lasers.

05:42 If you can't afford pigment lasers, you can moisturize your lips first.

05:47 Moisturize and sunscreen your lips.

05:50 And also assess your skincare because later on, your skincare might be too drying on the face.

05:55 If your face is already dry, your lips will dry more quickly.

06:00 And lastly, what can she do for those who have acne that is coming from their face,

06:06 or from their neck, from May, completed?

06:10 May, you might be improperly treated.

06:13 Your acne is not enough.

06:16 Maybe later on, it's just that simple.

06:19 Or maybe later on, you have hormonal problems.

06:22 You have PCOS.

06:24 You have polycystic ovarian syndrome.

06:27 So, you should consult an OB.

06:29 If you're getting fat, your neck is itching,

06:33 you will have other symptoms like pimples or PCOS aside from acne.

06:38 Or maybe later on, you're getting pimples.

06:42 And your medications are also not enough.

06:45 There are so many causes of pimples.

06:47 And of course, foods that can be inflammatory.

06:51 Daily sweets, maybe you're addicted to milkshakes, milk tea.

06:58 So, there are many possible causes of acne.

07:04 So, better yet, go to a dermatologist to give you the right medicine for you.
