Hello there, welcome to a Wednesday evening weather forecast from the Met Office. A key
00:05
watchpoint through Thursday will be rain approaching southern counties of England. A rain warning
00:09
has been issued. In fact, low pressure sits towards the north-west of Scotland, so the
00:14
whole country won't be immune to some wet weather through the next 24 hours, but certainly
00:18
it's going to be more intense across more southern counties as this feature just rolls
00:22
in and tracks from the west towards the east. You can see the rain warning covering much
00:27
of southern counties up towards Essex and the southern tip of Suffolk as well. So we
00:32
could see some heavy downpours, the risk of flooding here, and as you can see it's a wet
00:37
night across many areas with further showers. These showers will be frequent, particularly
00:42
across the north as well as the west, more persistent rain across eastern counties of
00:46
Scotland. Further south, these showers will tend to fade away a little bit, certainly
00:50
for the Midlands as well as Wales, but they'll come and go across northern counties as we
00:54
head through into the early hours of the morning. But where you see some starry skies, temperatures
00:57
dipping down to around 3 degrees Celsius, a bit of a chilly start to the day here. But
01:03
for Scotland, it'll be a windy one across the northern isles, eastern counties with
01:07
that strong to near gale force southeast wind. Temperatures holding up across the western
01:12
side of Scotland, here around 6 to start the day on Thursday, and further showers, not
01:18
a lot of change from the last few days. Further showers move in across northern Ireland, northern
01:23
counties of England, one or two for the Isle of Man. Further south, you can see some drier
01:27
skies, some clearer skies, and even some fog patches as a veil of clouds arrives across
01:32
the far southwest, and that's that feature which will bring the rain as we head through
01:36
Thursday at lunchtime and into the afternoon. So through the morning, much of Wales will
01:41
be dry, and the southeast of England, these eastern counties. Along this coast here, always
01:46
the chance of some showery bursts, as well as northern counties. And for Scotland, always
01:50
a lot of clouds, and further showers are likely. A similar situation across northern
01:54
Ireland. They'll be fairly scattered here, so east will be best in terms of drier weather.
01:59
By lunchtime though, you can see this rain, it will be heavy at times, as it tracks from
02:04
the west towards the east, reaching the home counties through the afternoon and into evening
02:09
rush hour. So the risk of flooding here, certainly tricky driving conditions, yet again with
02:14
lots of surface water, and some strong winds associated with this as well, particularly
02:18
along the coast. Here are your temperatures through Thursday. Seven in the north, eight
02:23
or nine further south. In fact, the trend will be that it will turn colder through Friday
02:28
and into the weekend. Before that though, this rain continues until the early hours
02:33
of Friday morning. Again, it pushes up towards East Anglia, before it clears towards the
02:38
low countries. And again, you can see some stronger winds associated with it. Further
02:42
showers moving in across the west, and this northwest wind will deliver showers down this
02:47
eastern western side as well, down towards the Irish Sea coast. So again, showers to
02:52
start the day on Friday, but inland, we'll see some clearer skies, some mist and fog
02:57
patches and temperatures close to freezing. You could see some frost, and that really
03:01
sets the scene for the weekend, some widespread frost likely. Come Friday, showery bursts
03:06
along the eastern side as that rain clears, and then further west you can see showers
03:10
streaming down on a strong northwest wind. So those showers will continue through the
03:15
day across these parts, moving in across North Wales, the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland
03:20
as well, and frequent bursts across the western side of Scotland. So low pressure eventually
03:27
clears. It's sort of squeezed out the way as high pressure extends from the west, and
03:32
this Scandinavian high pushes down towards the UK. So what that means into Saturday and
03:39
Sunday? Yes, still the chance of a few showers, particularly along the coast, but we'll see
03:44
some drier weather, some colder weather, with the risk of some widespread frost. And I'll
03:49
see you later.
