00:00Hi there and welcome to the latest forecast for Scotland from the Met Office.

00:05Ogmanay this year is looking very good indeed, sunny skies for most, staying dry as well

00:10as we head towards midnight with high pressure fairly widely across the UK but particularly

00:16so for Scotland. For New Year's Day itself, a freshening breeze from the west will bring

00:22thickening cloud in and it then turns unsettled later on. New Year's Eve however, well look

00:29at that, wall to wall sunshine across the country. Virtually everyone staying dry, even

00:34the odd shower across Shetland early on will have cleared away by the end of the afternoon

00:39and then it's looking like a crisp, bright winter's day. As far as temperatures are concerned,

00:44much lower compared to recent days, we're looking at 2-4 Celsius fairly widely inland.

00:50Shetland the place to be, 8 or 9 degrees here if you like some milder conditions, 6 or 7

00:56around western coasts as well. But fast forwarding to the evening, well thicker cloud across

01:02Dumfries and Galloway, western parts of the Central Belt starting to roll in at this time

01:07but it's largely dry and clear and turning frosty in the east. Temperatures fairly widely

01:14low single figures or touch below freezing in any rural spots. Freshening breeze there

01:20for the Northern Isles increasing cloud cover. Across much of central Scotland I suspect

01:26as the bell tolls midnight it's going to be largely cloudy by this date but it will be

01:32dry for the vast majority and New Year's Day itself looking dry for the vast majority but

01:38you wouldn't rule out a few spots of rain and drizzle around the north and the northwest.

01:42Elsewhere a lot of cloud cover, some low cloud covering the hills bringing some drizzle but

01:47the driest and brightest weather always to the northeast. A freshening breeze, now that

01:52will make it feel cool but it's actually temperatures a little higher compared to New Year's Eve

01:57and perhaps in one or two spots where that breeze is warming out and drying out over

02:01the higher ground we'll get into the double figures as far as the temperatures are concerned

02:05but otherwise it's around average for the time of year. Whatever your plans, have a
