00:00That was a highlight for sure of last night's game.

00:03Unfortunately for the Tigers,

00:04they were unable to secure the win.

00:06They took the lead three to two

00:08going into the seventh inning

00:10and things kind of fell apart for them there.

00:14Had a great at-bat from Fry,

00:17who ends up getting a home run,

00:18pinch hit home run off of Bo Briskey.

00:21Now this is where we get to our first guessing,

00:24any move that you didn't like last night in the game

00:27that you felt at the time,

00:29not sure I would agree with, right?

00:31None of this revisionist history stuff.

00:33Okay, because the result worked the way it did.

00:36But you and I were talking before the game,

00:38before the show.

00:39For me, I wasn't sure going into the game,

00:43like this is after the game on Wednesday,

00:46I thought, okay, Bo Briskey threw 27 pitches on Wednesday.

00:50Is Bo Briskey gonna be available on Thursday?

00:54I'm thinking to myself, probably not,

00:56you know, and Will Vest.

00:57Will Vest threw 20 pitches on Wednesday.

01:00Is he gonna be available?

01:01Because both these guys also pitched in game two, right?

01:04So, I wasn't sure if they were going to be available

01:08going back to back days after throwing,

01:11you know, 20 pitches and 27 pitches respectively.

01:13But when Bo Briskey came out,

01:15my initial thought then is,

01:17okay, I would have questioned,

01:19however, I do trust A.J. Hinch completely

01:23with what he has done with his pitching staff.

01:25That he and Chris Fetter, they talk with the pitchers,

01:28they know exactly where they're at.

01:29And if Bo was coming in there specifically

01:31to face a right-handed pitcher,

01:32a right-handed hitter, I should say,

01:34and the pinch hitter in Frey,

01:36okay, that's the matchup you want.

01:37If he gets out of the inning, if he gets him out,

01:40then he doesn't have to pitch anymore.

01:43Because as a pitcher, yes, you have to face three batters,

01:46but only if it's in the same inning.

01:48You can finish an inning

01:49and then you don't know when to come back.

01:50So, it would have been a one and done type thing.

01:54So, I kind of bought back into it.

01:56Because, all right, if it's just one, I get it.

01:59But still, I was a little nervous about it

02:01because of how much he had pitched.

02:03Well, the question was going to be, though,

02:04if he did get out of it, do you bring him back for the eighth

02:08or who do you put in for the eighth?

02:11Because if Frey makes the last out,

02:14you're looking at Ramirez, Naylor, and Thomas coming up.

02:17So, basically, it's two lefties and a righty.

02:20Well, Ramirez is a switch hitter,

02:21but you know he would bat left-handed

02:22if it was Briskey or Vest or Foley,

02:25because they don't think they had any lefties left,

02:26did they?

03:39for either the first base coach or Riley Green.

03:43Why is he halfway between first and second?

03:46That should have been an automatic,

03:48especially Riley Green is pretty quick, okay?

03:52That's a tag up to second base.

03:54Automatic for me.

03:56And I know, well, they don't do it enough

03:58in the pros in Major League Baseball.

04:01I can never understand why.

04:03Especially at Comerica Park,

04:04which is the biggest park in baseball.

04:08To me, he should have been on second base.

04:09Now, who knows whether the base hit that followed

04:13would have still happened if he was on second base?

04:15Everybody always goes by that.

04:23But to me, you gotta get him on scoring position.

04:30That is a pet peeve of mine that I have watching games,

04:33because that extra base is so important.

04:35And I feel like this was a misstep by the Tigers,

04:38because I feel like this is something

04:39the Tigers do a lot of.

04:41We praise them for what they do on the base pass,

04:43because they are so heady,

04:44because they are so well-prepared.

04:46That Jake Rodgers goes from first to third on a base hit,

04:49like it's his job, because you know what?

04:51It is your job.

04:52But he does it despite the fact he's not fleet of foot.

04:54Here you've got Riley Greene, who is fleet of foot.

04:56And I'm with you.

04:58The fact he didn't tag up, I'm like,

05:00oh, come on, what, he didn't tag up.

05:02And does it end up being important?

05:05Yeah, it's important.

05:07If.

05:08Because you put it in the if game, sure.

05:10Because then you follow that up with-

05:12Perez got a hit.

05:13Yep, which would have scored Riley Greene.

05:15So that bothered me.

05:17And also, you could even,

05:19I didn't have that much of a problem

05:20with it earlier in the game,

05:23on the sacrifice fly that scored the Tigers' first run.

05:27I thought Torkelson could have tugged from second to third.

05:31Well, the only problem-

05:34because if Torkelson doesn't run well,

05:35the other thing is,

05:36the outfielders for Cleveland do have good arms.

05:39So you have to take that into account.

06:19I mean, when you're in these situations,

06:21where the Tigers, where they're at today,

06:23how they got here,

06:24is aggressive base running and good pitching.

06:27They were not aggressive on the base pass at all last night.

06:31I feel like they should have put more runners in motion,

06:35hitting runs.

06:35I feel like that's something Hinch doesn't do,

06:37but I also feel like he doesn't trust his guys enough

06:40with the bats to do that.

06:42Well, I think it's twofold.

06:43They also don't have true base dealers on his team,

06:45and Parker Meadows has elite speed,

06:48but he's not the best base dealer,

06:50but he's got elite speed.

06:50To get him going, I understand that.

06:53McKinstry runs well.

06:55And another thing is,

06:56when they brought in Holton

06:58and Ramirez hit that homer on him,

07:01he switched him to the right,

07:03and Ramirez' bat's almost identical from left to right,

07:06at least with power.

07:08But if I'm Holton, you have the first two out,

07:11you got an open base,

07:12I would have not even pitched Ramirez.

07:14I would have pitched around him,

07:15would have chased some balls and then go after him,

07:18because then he had Naylor lefty on lefty.

07:20I mean, I know he's a good hitter,

07:21but I would have trusted that matchup a lot more.

07:23Yeah, I'm not going to disagree with that either, Adam,

07:26I've said for weeks,

07:28I don't pitch to Jose Ramirez.

07:45To me, that's the key of the game,

07:46is the fact that they didn't score more runs

07:48in that situation,

07:49and there was another situation where it was close.

07:51They didn't, it was like the Tigers of old,

07:53where they were so, you know,

07:55mediocre with guys in scoring positions.

07:59I mean, last night, I think they were one for 11.

08:01Now, not that Cleveland was great.

08:03I think they were two for nine

08:05with runners in scoring position,

08:06but I don't care what they did, it's what we did.

08:09But that's just a, that's a missed opportunity,

08:11despite the, I mean, Jake Rodgers hit a line shot.

08:15He had a nice at bat with it,

08:17but unfortunately, it's right at the shortstop,

08:19and he's able to make the double play easily.

08:21And for those that are watching on TV,

08:23you heard their crew, you know, talking about it,

08:26that looked like Torkelson took a couple hop steps

08:29towards second as soon as the ball was hit,

08:30and that's what really exposed him.

08:32I still think he would have been out,

08:33even if he's standing dead still,

08:36but nonetheless, they didn't get more runs

08:38out of that situation that everybody thinks you should.

08:41And yet, the Tigers have benefited

08:43from those situations, too.

08:45So that's just part of baseball.

08:46How about the defensive play Cole Keith made, by the way?

08:48That was phenomenal.

08:49The ground ball in the hole at second base,

08:51he lays out for it.

08:53Yeah, absolutely saved a run.

08:55But not only does he lay out for it,

08:57the ball takes a hop, and he has to raise his glove

09:00while he's diving for it.

09:02And he made the save.

09:03Unfortunately, he wasn't in the nets

09:05for the wings last night.

09:06No, that's, I don't know why you gotta go there this early.

09:09Kenny, do you understand why he's doing this?
