00:00It is a Patriots Friday here on Jones and Keefe, and we're joined as we are each and every week by a member of the Patriots.

00:06This week it is Dietrich Wise, Patriots defensive lineman. He's brought to you by Shaw's in Star Market, perfecting the art of fresh.

00:12Dietrich, interesting timing here. How you doing this week?

00:16Doing wonderful. How you doing today?

00:17We're doing great. As always, we've been reacting to a story yesterday from the Patriots website, of all places,

00:24that the locker room is teetering on a mutiny. Do you have any thoughts on that story, or do you find it amusing in any way?

00:32What's your reaction to that?

00:35I don't think that's true at all. I think that's very false. I don't know where those words or thoughts or opinions could have come from.

00:44We have a lot of guys in here who bust a bus every day to get better.

00:49Come here first thing in the morning, 5, 5.30, 6, work out, feel and watch, get their bodies ready to play.

00:56They've been doing this for a long time.

01:00If anything, if any anger is in the building, it's because they just want to win.

01:04And we all have the culture and the mindset of the culture that's been built here, and that culture is winning.

01:11So, if anything, we just want to win and get better.

01:17But there is no turmoil, there is no animosity, there is no whatever word he used in the locker room.

01:23I think where it comes from, based on Evan Lazar's reporting, is frustration with the offense.

01:30The offense right now is 32nd out of 32, passing yards per game 31st out of 32 in scoring.

01:37Obviously, Drake May is waiting in the wings, so I think we see some frustration on the field.

01:41I know your teammate Demario Douglas apologized for the way he was carrying himself last week.

01:45I think that's at least where the reporting came from.

01:48So, it does seem like there is some level of frustration.

01:51Maybe it's not a mutiny or teetering on a mutiny, but it does seem like there's some outward frustration on the team.

01:57I wouldn't say that we're cheating or anything, but success.

02:01We're really in the balance line.

02:06And once we continue to fix the small details that we've been messing up on in these last four games,

02:12once we fix those small details and execute them at a high level, then we're going to be cheering on success.

02:20And that's what I'm saying today.

02:22Your teammate Devon Gottschall was on with us on Monday and he told us that some of the players on defense

02:28were being a little bit selfish and not just doing what was called.

02:33Do you agree with him on that?

02:35And if so, is that something you feel like will get cleaned up?

02:39I think there have been some uncharacteristic plays by us.

02:45I'm not going to put a title on it. I don't really know what it was.

02:48But I would say that we have cleaned up a lot of things that we have been doing over the last couple games.

02:54And like I said before to the media, it's only October.

02:58So all the things that people are talking about, we have a whole lot of ball left.

03:03And there's no indication of our future.

03:07So what I like to say is we cleaned up everything and we're moving in the right direction from this day forward.

03:13Do you like the fact that he brought that out publicly or would you have preferred that to stay in-house?

03:21You said he, so who are you talking about?

03:23Oh, Devon Gottschall. Sorry.

03:25I don't know. I don't know how he said it, what he said.

03:32First, I'm hearing this with you.

03:34So I don't really know how it was asked, how it was questioned.

03:37But long story short, we're focusing on winning here.

03:41Focusing on getting better and focusing on getting our small things fixed.

03:58I haven't really heard much outside of this.

04:01Well, he shared it right here on this very program, your pal there, Devon Gottschall.

04:05So you talked about it's only October and you have a high degree of faith in turning things around.

04:11Can I just ask why you have that high degree of faith?

04:13Two years ago, you were an eight-win team.

04:15Last year, you were a four-win team.

04:17This year, a lot of prognosticators didn't feel great about the situation going into the year.

04:21You're now one in three, three straight losses.

04:23Why do you have that level of faith in the team based on how you played recently?

04:28I see what these guys go through every day to get on the field.

04:32I've been with this group of guys since April.

04:35What they've gone through just to get in the building, their backstories, why they play.

04:41I've seen them overcome injuries, fight through injuries, play through a lot of things that most,

04:47not to be funny, but most people who watched the game wanted to get out of bed for.

04:52So these guys are busting their butts, sacrificing every day to come here

04:58and put everything on the line to get a win and have success for the team, their family, and past nation.

05:06So that's why I believe that we will be moving up in the upward direction from this day forward.

05:13When you guys lose two team captains for the season in Andrews and in Bentley,

05:18you are also one of the remaining captains.

05:21Do you feel as though you have to be more of a leader?

05:24Do you have to make up for the voices that have been lost in that locker room?

05:28Do you feel any more, I don't know if pressure is the right word, but responsibility maybe?

05:34Well, first of all, my father always said, to much is good, much is required.

05:39So me being a captain, me being eight years, that's already required of me to be a leader,

05:44to be a captain, to be vocal.

05:46I'm not going to do anything that's outside of myself.

05:49So I'm just going to have a person, a leader, person, leader and captain

05:52who always leads with actions, empathy, and words.

05:59So I'm just aimed every day to be the highest version of who I am, not anybody else,

06:06not pick up any slack because when Bentley went down, that hurt the team

06:11and I knew, okay, next in line to be the voice is me just because he always talks.

06:17When D.A. went down, that definitely hurts as well.

06:20A lot of guys are still rooting for him to his recovery.

06:24Both of them are still around, giving their love, their words of encouragement,

06:28their education, their knowledge to the game.

06:31And there's guys from offense who are stepping up as well.

06:34They're just speaking for myself.

06:36I talk to the team along with other guys who are leaders as well.

06:41We're talking to Dietrich Wise, Patriots captain, joining us here on Jones and Keefe.

06:45You have your block party, your fifth annual block party coming up in Mattapam.

06:50What can you tell us about that event, Dietrich?

06:54This is going to be a wonderful event.

06:56This event will be this Saturday, October 5th, starting at 2 o'clock.

07:02This is a great event that I put together with my team to shine a bright light on Mattapam

07:10and the Boys and Girls Club Center there and everything that they do,

07:14and then also at the same time to create a community of unity, inspiration, and education.

07:21And doing that event, we just give out free food.

07:25We have free produce for the families and kids who come out, haircuts and abradors for the kids.

07:34And also there will be a lot of performance from the kids who are at the Boys and Girls Club.

07:39They'll be out there performing for their friends, their family, and their community.

07:43So come on out if you're hearing this to Mattapam, October 5th, this Saturday, at 2 o'clock.

07:50Okay. It's a great event. It's a great cause.

07:52Again, Saturday, October 5th, it's going to be at the Josh Craft Mattapam Teen Center,

07:56Boys and Girls Club in Mattapam, the 5th annual Dietrich Wise Block Party.

08:15I mean, what's he going to tell us? There's a mutiny going on in there?

08:18No, but he shot that down. I mean, as clear as you can.

08:21He's shutting it down. He's, you know, similar to Devon Gottschall on Monday.

08:26They still have confidence in themselves. They think they're better than what they're showing.

08:30And so, like, this is Sunday is such a great opportunity for that because you can start to buy in a little bit.

08:36Be like, all right, if you could beat Miami, another team that's kind of in the basement with you guys right now,

08:40if you beat them, it's like, okay, all right, that's a step in the right direction.

08:43But if you don't, it kind of swings it pretty dramatically the other way.

08:46No, it's true. And look, I think the defense, you've made this point a bunch.

08:51The defense might be a little insulated from the frustration because they've been poor on their side of the ball.

08:57So what are they going to do? They're going to rant and rave about it?

08:59Some of the guys on offense are probably more outraged than the guys on defense.

09:03So we can ask Alex Van Pelt about that when he joins us at 1230 here on a Patriots Friday.
