00:00In the month of September, which is generally considered a sexual health month, we want

00:05to focus on what exactly happened to men after they decided to use vasectomy as a form of

00:11contraception.

00:13And the commonly asked question is what happened to the sperm or semen after vasectomy.

00:26In fact, there are two different matters altogether.

00:29What happened to the semen and what happened to the sperm.

00:33Let's deal with what happened to the semen first.

00:35If you imagine a typical man will ejaculate between 4-6ml of liquid during climax and

00:43out of that liquid, 99% actually produced by the prostate and only 1% actually is the

00:51sperm that mixed with that liquid.

00:54In fact, the prostatic secretions contain a lot of nutrition and lubricant and also

01:00alkaline solution to neutralise the acidity in the actual vagina itself so it facilitate

01:08the sperm swimming.

01:10So after a vasectomy, in fact, there is no change in the semen at all.

01:15So the amount that is ejaculated, the texture that is ejaculated, the temperature, the colour

01:22and everything else remain unchanged.

01:24The only thing is that it does not contain any sperm.

01:30So that leads to the second question.

01:33What exactly happens to the sperms?

01:35In fact, actually the sperm is continuous being produced, they actually stay in the

01:41lining of the epididymis and after about a period of 90-120 days, it will die and the

01:50body will absorb it.

01:52Imagine that someone like a monk who doesn't ejaculate or who doesn't actually involve

01:56in sexual activity, eventually the sperm will be produced, mature and also survive and die

02:04and it's the same thing because after vasectomy, the sperm doesn't actually get out.

02:09So there is a good thing and a bad thing.

02:12The good thing is that the continuous production of sperm eventually will die so that itself

02:19may mean that if someone change their mind, they can actually retrieve the sperm and directly

02:24make a test tube baby.

02:26Alternatively, that accumulated sperm itself might actually undergo changes and sometimes

02:33it might cause slight discomfort in the initial part after the vasectomy.

02:38So for next week, we are going to focus a lot more about vasectomy and what happens

02:43to your libido and also your climax and also more importantly, your erection after vasectomy.
