Man arrested in Darwin after woman's death, homicide investigation underway

Police have arrested a man following the death of a woman he was in a relationship with at a home in Darwin's Northern Suburbs. As the homicide investigation continues, neighbours have expressed their sadness over the tragic loss of life.

00:00In the early hours of the morning, police attended this home and found a 43-year-old

00:08woman dead, now the subject of a homicide investigation.

00:12A 57-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the matter and is currently in police custody.

00:18Police say the man was in a domestic relationship with the Indigenous woman and that he is assisting

00:23their investigation.

00:24Was this man known to police for domestic violence?

00:27Yes.

00:28While the deceased woman's relative made the initial call to police, officers are seeking

00:33further detail.

00:34Again, we're calling on anyone who might have information, who might be a witness or have

00:38CCTV or any other information that can come forward.

00:41Police insist their response time was swift, but some residents have told the ABC they

00:47heard disturbances earlier in the evening.

00:49They called the police.

00:50The police didn't arrive until maybe 30 minutes later, and then 30 minutes later the police

00:56called paramedics.

00:57Paramedics wouldn't arrive until another 30 minutes later.
