Police investigating death of 53-year-old woman near shopping complex

Northern Territory police are investigating the suspicious death of a woman in Darwin’s northern suburbs. It's left local residents rattled, as the community comes to terms with the death of another woman.

00:06That's the scene that confronted police in Darwin's northern suburbs overnight, before

00:11a 53-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene.

00:14It's heartbreaking, you know, another life gone.

00:19Just after 1am, police received reports that a woman was not breathing near a shopping

00:23complex in Wanguri.

00:25Paramedics attempted to resuscitate her, but were unsuccessful.

00:29At this stage, I have no information to indicate whether or not it's a domestic family violence

00:34matter or not.

00:35The major crime unit is treating her death as suspicious, and is appealing for witnesses.

00:40There were a group of people there at the time with her, but as I said, we're also asking

00:45if anybody saw that group of people there at the time, is to call police with any further

00:50information.

00:51The incident, leaving neighbours rattled.

00:54It sounded like a man was screaming, and yeah, that went on for probably an hour.

01:02We have had instances before where there's been some violence, but to know that it's

01:06gone to that extreme, it's, yeah, it's heartbreaking, I feel, for the woman who died.

01:12Police have urged anyone with information or CCTV in the area to come forward.
