00:00Johor police have clarified that there was no attempted kidnapping involving
00:07an e-hailing driver and a passenger as widely claimed on social media.
00:12Johor Bahru Uttara Police Chief M.S.
00:15Balveer Singh said they received a report from the driver who picked up a female
00:19passenger in Taman Saroja to take her to Kip Mall, Tampoy.
00:24Due to road maintenance, the driver had to deviate from the original route and head
00:28towards Taman Perling to make a U-turn on Jalan Prisci Siran Perling, he said in a
00:32statement today.
00:34When the passenger noticed the route change, she jumped out of the moving car, he added.
00:39Balveer said police investigations found no criminal elements in the incident and
00:43advised drivers to improve communication with passengers regarding route changes.
00:49However, he urged passengers to stay vigilant, avoid hasty actions, and
00:53communicate with their e-hailing drivers or authorities if they are worried.
00:58If they are still concerned about their safety, then they should
01:01contact the police, he added.
01:03The social media post earlier this week falsely claimed that the e-hailing driver
01:07had attempted to kidnap the passenger, disabled his location tracking, and
01:11switched to offline mode in the app.
