9-year-old is best friends with a wild magpie, who finds her wherever she goes and asks to play! We spoke to Lucy, who told us how they met and became so close

00:00I have a wild-thrown magpie named Pie.

00:20Pie was about six weeks old when we first saw her.

00:24She was on the ground, not moving.

00:27She opened her beak and squawked when I went up to her.

00:30She looked hungry, so I fed her mealworms soaked in water.

00:36After that, she then started to visit me at my house.

00:42We let her into our sunroom.

00:46We keep the door open so that she can always get out.

00:49But she really loves the sunroom, and meditates on one leg for up to two hours.

00:56Once you could fly, Pie and I grew so close.

01:00We sang together,

01:05played together,

01:09and even did flower pressing together.

01:12Pie, that is my flower press.

01:16We pick wildflowers from our garden,

01:19and Pie loves to grab them and run away.

01:22She loves to pick up things, especially napkins and flowers.

01:26She tears up the napkins. I think maybe she wants to make a nest.

01:33Pie really likes to hang out with us.

01:35If we're in the garden, or anywhere outside, she finds us.

01:40When we ride our motorbike, she follows us.

01:43And she has followed us for really long distances across our farm.

02:00Her full name is Pie-a.

02:02When I was little, I called magpies, magpies,

02:05because my grandma has a strong Italian accent.

02:08And that's what she called them.

02:10We refer to her as a girl, but she might be a boy.

02:13It takes two years to find out.

02:15She doesn't visit as much now that she's older.

02:18It's nice that she gets to live her own life.

02:22Because, well, she's a wild bird.

02:27She only spends time with me when she wants to.
