Let's start off with the streak ending for the Chicago White Sox. No more losing for the Sox.
00:10
Finally we can say that they are winners going into tonight's game as Chicago will not be
00:16
the only team that has had the longest losing streak in American League history. They ended
00:20
up tying it with Orioles but not having more as they get the victory. Now the White Sox are still
00:26
going to be, you know, 110-20 lost team at the end of the season but at least these players on this
00:32
team in the future will be able to say we weren't the worst of all time. So congrats to the Chicago
00:38
White Sox for winning the game yesterday. I've seen a lot of this popping on social media and
00:43
some of the other shows. Shame on you. Never talk baseball at all in your life and then this is what
00:48
you want to focus on, losing. Oh, hate to see that. All right, breaking news in the NBA. ESPN
00:54
reports Laurie Markkinen has signed a five-year contract extension over 200 million dollars
00:58
guaranteed, a restructuring and an extension with Utah as Markkinen now going to stay with the Jazz
01:04
it looks like at least for the time being. Again, it's the NBA so players get traded all the time
01:08
even when they sign long-term deals but that's the big news in the NBA today as Utah on the rise,
01:14
of course, in the National Basketball Association. Also on the rise is Charles Barkley's career. He
01:19
said he would retire at the end of next year and leave TNT after their contract ran out and went
01:24
to NBC. That's not going to be the case. Apparently yesterday Barkley decides that he's going to stay
01:30
with TNT and stay through the 10-year contract that he signed with TNT Sports in 2022. How about
01:37
that? Even without the NBA, what's he going to do? I don't know. Your guess is as good as mine.
01:42
Barkley said that I love my TNT family. My number one priority has been and always will be our
01:47
people and keeping everyone together for as long as possible. We have the most amazing people. They
01:51
are also blessed at what they do. I'm looking forward to continue to work with them on the
01:55
shows we have and the new ones we develop in the future. So that was the little bit of the poker
02:01
tale right there. Develop in the future. Again, they may not have the rights to cover the NBA
02:07
games but maybe there's an NBA broadcast in TNT's future with the name Charles Barkley on it. We'll
02:13
have to see. Stay tuned. All right, how about Brazil? And what a match yesterday. 4-2 the final,
02:21
5-1 to win. Spain was the gold medal favorite. They end up taking the victory by a final, as I
02:26
said, of 4-2. They didn't even have their captain Marta in the game. As he got a red card
02:32
in the 2-0 loss to Spain in the group stage, Brazil is going to face Team USA for the gold
02:39
medal. This should be fantastic. Spain, by the way, will play the bronze medal game against Germany
02:43
on Friday. Meanwhile, Sophia Smith sends the U.S. women's team to the gold medal match. Not a
02:49
surprise there. Extra time goal. 1-0 as USA gets the semi-final win against Germany on Tuesday.
02:56
The U.S. again will play Brazil. They beat Spain. And Germany will play the bronze medal match
03:02
on Friday, as I just said. Okay, now let's talk about the upset in Paris as France beats Canada.
03:10
French coach Vincent Colette pulled four-time NBA defensive player of the year Rudy Gobert
03:15
and Evan Fournier from the starting lineup. Gobert played just three minutes after having an injury
03:19
in practice. Fournier had some issues, finished 15 points saying afterward there's no issues with
03:25
his coach. But regardless, that's what they said. Canada, by the way, has not reached the Olympic
03:29
Final Four since 1984. Okay, the Seine River in Paris. You don't want to swim in there because
03:36
you could get E. coli. We've seen that play out. But they just did have a test run to allow the
03:42
Olympic athletes to familiarize themselves, if I can say that right, with the marathon swimming
03:47
course in the Seine River. They got the go-ahead on Wednesday. The decision was made after Tuesday's
03:51
test was canceled over the water quality in Paris. This has been going back and forth with the
03:57
athletes there. One of the athletes did test positive for E. coli in the world triathlon
04:03
competitor. American Cole Hawker pulled the upset of the Olympic track meet on Tuesday night.
04:09
Out racing favorites Jacob Ingerbretsen and Josh Kerr to finish line at the gold medal
04:17
in the 1500 meters. The bigger story yesterday probably was Gabby Thomas. She dominated the
04:23
women's 200 meters, finishing in 21.83 seconds to add a gold medal to the bronze that she took
04:29
home from the event in Tokyo three years ago. A lot of love I saw on social media for Gabby.
04:34
Meanwhile, Cuban wrestler Mijan Lopez used to be part of a very exclusive club of athletes with
04:40
four individual gold medals in the same event at the Olympic Games. A record-breaking fifth
04:46
straight individual title, a 5p, winning the gold in the Greco-Roman wrestling competition.
04:51
Lopez made his Olympic debut at 21 in Athens in 2004. He's had an incredible run of gold 2008,
04:58
2012, 2016, 2021, and now 2024. The U.S. men's basketball team rolls on. They crushed Brazil.
05:07
I mean, this thing was not close. 122 to 87. They now have to win two more games to win a fifth
05:12
consecutive gold medal. They will take on Serbia in the semifinals on Thursday. We will preview
05:19
that game with Gilbert McGregor coming up in just a few minutes. Kevin Durant had 11 points
05:23
in the game. But needless to say, 35-point win for Team USA. They are humming on all cylinders
05:29
right now. Fines given out to the Lions and Giants, a couple hundred grand each for the
05:34
fight that they had on the field. Naturally, any time that you have a scuffle in a practice, you're
05:40
going to get fined. And there you see Ian Rappaport from NFL Network detailing the fact that they did.
05:46
On the NFL field, we've got injuries to talk about. And we'll start off with, for those of
05:50
you getting ready to draft your fantasy football team, Christian McCaffrey. Yet another lower leg
05:55
issue for him. He did not participate in Tuesday's drills because of a strained calf. Head coach Kyle
06:02
Shanahan said McCaffrey will miss a couple of weeks of practice. He will not play in the preseason.
06:09
Their backup running back, Elijah Mitchell, is also suffering an injury as well. So look out to
06:16
see who plays running back for the 49ers, I guess, in the preseason. Could be a good fantasy pick.
06:20
Meanwhile, Puka Nakua, according to Sean McVay, should be ready to go in week one of the NFL season.
06:26
Right now, it is not likely that he will play in the first two games for the Rams. And usually
06:32
starters don't play in week three. So Nakua could be just like McCaffrey, who doesn't play
06:37
in the preseason, but ends up playing in the regular season. Offensive lineman Connor Williams
06:42
signs a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks. Seven-year veteran coming off a season knee injury
06:48
last December. And social media still buzzing. Everybody trying to break a story that hasn't
06:53
happened. I mean, Brandon Ayuk has been traded on social media to like four different teams.
06:58
Everybody just trying to get ahead of being first without being right. Ayuk has not been traded
07:03
by the 49ers to anywhere as we do the show right now. As somebody that breaks news, I get the
07:09
interest in wanting to do it, but you probably should be right before you send out stuff like that.
07:14
A new venue for Major League Baseball. It is Bristol Motor Speedway coming soon to 2025.
07:20
The Atlanta Braves will host the game there. Frambois Valdez, 5-0 in his last five starts.
07:26
Eight and two-thirds hit list innings. He's been on fire for Houston as they are trying to capture
07:32
yet another West title. Dodgers relief pitcher Brustar Gratterall injured his hamstring. Looking
07:39
at his season debut, his season is now likely over just after it began. And also Grayson Rodriguez
07:47
for the Baltimore Orioles was a late scratch yesterday. He is going to have MRI imaging on
07:52
his back and shoulder. The Orioles acquired a couple of pitchers at the trade deadline,
07:57
but they were counting on Grayson Rodriguez to pitch for them in the postseason.
08:01
And as of right now, that seems to be very much in question.
